Where did the stories go??

An AFP report that President Barack Obama’s 13-year-old daughter, Malia, is spending spring break in Oaxaca, Mexico appears to have been completely scrubbed from the Internet news sites that first reported it.
AFP first reported around mid-day Monday that Malia Obama was vacationing in Mexico with 12 friends under the protection of 25 Secret Service agents and a number of local police officers.
The International Business Times reported that, “the group arrived in Oaxaca on Saturday and reportedly visited the architectural site of Mitla.”
The Department of Public Safety, a Texas law enforcement agency, issued a warning on Tuesday against students against celebrating their spring breaks in violence-torn Mexico. The Huffington Post reported that in February, the United States State Department “recommended that Americans avoid travel to all or parts of 14 or 31 Mexican states. It’s the widest travel advisory issued by the U.S. since Mexico stepped up its drug war in 2006.”
Since the story was first reported, it appears to have been scrubbed from a number of news outlets. The Huffington Post, International Business Times, The Australian, The Telegraph and Global Grind have all removed the article, and AFP, which initially reported the story, now links to an unrelated story on “Sengalese superstar Youssou Ndour.”

I remember when the Bush girls went to Argentina. One of them had her purse swiped from a Bar and she told the Secret Service to get it back. She felt she had no reason to look out for it herself.

Then there was the game the girls played called 'Ditch the Secret Service Agents'. Funny, funny stuff.

After one of the Agents was almost beat to death by a street gang Daddy Bush stepped in and told them to stop insisting on seeing the rougher side of town.

This was not widely reported on, either.

But as to the insinuation that the articles were pulled for no reason......

I think there is this thing called 'Personal Safety' that the White House is concerned about. Movements of family members are not published in advance and details about their travels just adds to the cost of protecting them.

The city of Oaxoca is considered by the US Department of State to be a safe place for Americans to travel. There is no advisory for this area.

And.....

About 50 years ago I was planning a trip through Baja Mexico. The US State Department advised me that unless I was able to take a fully automatic weapon with me then I should not make the trip. I was assured this was possible if I had the cash for the weapons and the personnel.

It was considered unsafe for travel even then.

I drove the entire peninsula in the late 60s and again in 71, just before Highway 1 was paved. Put my truck on the ferry that existed then between La Paz and Mazatlan and returned on the mainland. Baja was quite safe.
