I have thought of buying a small farm in Michigan and growing just enough corn to keep my venison stock filled all year round! |
I got thrown for the first time into a railroad tie fence post and broke my collar bone at age 10. I would subsequently be thrown MANY more times, which may account for my being an inch and a half shorter than I used to be.

At that age, and that time, in that county of Ohio, hunting permits were hardly ever had by many. Farmers in that area would hunt year 'round for deer and other food. We had a game warden disappear one year while trying to catch the farmers poaching for deer, which is illegal. They found the game warden's body the following spring, thawing in a field. It seems that the old farmers in that county don't like having a federal game warden coming in and telling them that they can't feed their family. Ironically, his death brought 3 years of constant presence of federal officers in the area during season. It also seems that the local police officers, Junior and Willard, didn't know anything about the shooting, or the poaching for that matter. Funny how small towns work that way. It wasn't until I was in my mid 20's that I decided to get a hunting license. The only reason was because I was hunting on public property in the northern part of the state. When I hunt on our property in southern Ohio, I rarely get a license...unless the area is teeming with gossip of another warden coming in. |

lets see... at 10, I'd already rebuilt several VW's...
I'd bought and sold thousands in candy and jewelry to my schoolmates... ALMOST started a insecticide company in Iran... kinda got sidetracked by the molitov coctails and the getting shipped out of the country on a military transport plane... butchered/assisted butchering livestock... mastered most firearms... (my dad was an expert marksman in the Air Force...) |

With dad being a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, we grew up an arsenal of firearms...M1 Garands, 1911s, shotguns, 9mms, etc. I carried a H&R 9 shot .22 revolver on my hip at age 9 while berry hunting...used it to shoot snakes and the occasional attacking groundhog. Dad made sure we knew how to strip a firearm down to parts, clean them properly and re-assemble. |
