I decided that I would drive my 1981 300D to work today. I have not driven her in a week. She is rusty, yet aside from a weak reverse gear, mechanically she is has been a bullet proof faithful car for 50,000 miles of ownership that has included many interstate miles traveled at 80mph+. Well, I went to leave in her today and she would not start. It was 34F this morning, however, which is not a temperature that she has ever had any sort of issue with. I suspect that she is jealous of the purchase of the SL320 and she is aware that she is about to be parted out. I must admit that the thought of departing with this car is sad. She may be ugly as sin, however, I have enjoyed many miles of comfort as she is an example of the greatness of the W123 chassis.
