Hi Mileage ML320

I saw a nice ML320 for sale today only problem was the mileage (appx 95k) . Since this car is being sold at a used car dealer there are no records. With the VIN (4JGAB54E2WA000663) can I find out anything about the servicing of this car ? I believe it comes from Connecticut. Also if someone doesnt mind maybe a Carfax report can be run for me. Thanks to all in advance. BTW price is 18500 !

Bob,

At 50 posts you appear to be a fairly experienced member here. You should know that it never hurts to take some initiative.

First, we have a forum dedicated to Mercedes ML vehicles. Just in case you’ve never seen it, here’s a link: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=17

Second we have a very good search feature here. You will find it at the top of almost every display at mercedesshop.com, but in case you’ve never seen that, here’s al link to that: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/search.php

You can use the search for just about any key word or series of keywords you’d care to research.

Third, you can do a rudimentary search on Carfax yourself at www.carfax.com And for a mere $15 you can run any number of searches with them. Isn't it worth $15 to investigate a $19000 expense????

Fourth, you can contact just about any Mercedes dealer and ask for what is called a master vehicle record by giving them the VIN. The MVR is the service history for the vehicle. Due to privacy issues, they may not give you all the details but if you stop by you’ll probably get more information.

Fifth, depending on the model year, there may be any number of known problems that may or may not have been resolved. You can find out about this stuff by doing a search here and to a better extent at a source called www.alldata.com. Alldata.com lists all known issues for most vehicle models, by model year.

Sixth, in addition to all the above, before you buy ANY used car or truck, you should take it to a 3rd party and have them do a used vehicle inspection.

Lastly, meaning no offense, your post appears to simply ask for anyone willing to just do the work for you. You will get much further by being motivated and spending a little time and money rather than waiting around for someone to do your work for you.

Hope this helps you in your search.

Good luck!

BTW, what does anyone say to adding a used car resarch topic to the DIY sections of the site?

Looks like it's a very early build from the last few numbers. I thought for some reason that the manufacturer code was WDB. I gotta go check mine, I have an ML too. A used to be Sindelfingen, must be Alabama now. I was also wondering what year it was. This makes a big difference in ML's, even moreso than any other model.

So did you do a VMI? If it's a pre-synthetic recommendation then I'd make sure that oil changes were done more than once every 12000 miles. Of course this is only my opinion, but I truly believe that there's a reason for the change to synth.

According to the dealer it is a 98. But I noticed that the bumpers are paint same as body color which I thought didnt exist in 98. I didnt do a VMI yet I am not too sure which dealer the car was sold by. The dealers selling the car tells me the car is from Connecticut. I am thinking if a 98 made it this far with 94k it is an accomplishment considering the many problems with this year. Thanks

Hrm, I didn't think they came with same colored bumpers either. What about those dinguards strips on the side, are they the same color too? The dealer might be mistaken and selling a Y2k as a '98. If that's the case I think you should jump on it

Well carfax found three records. It IS a '98. It's not a lemon though. You gotta fork out the $19.99 for the report if you want it. I don't have unlimited carfax.

I only have 64k on mine. It's likely that the bumpers were painted but the strips on the side too? One thing you can check is the front quarter panel. The side marker lights are further front toward the wheel well on '99 and later models. If it's not the right body panel it might have been in an accident. I guess the best way to find out is to do a VMI and then go look at it.

You go to the dealer and ask them to run one for you.
