Chevrolet Cobalt rant - step daughters car

What a piece of junk. The thing has a recirc door actuator that has gone bad and when you start the car it makes this thumping type noise anywhere from 1 to 5 times. The sd has the wife convinced it is going to leave her by the road (a/c works great:)) and the wife believes it:eek:. I spent a little time removing the dash cover today but told the wife that I'm buttoning it back up and the sd is just going to have to try to live with it. The car has 91k miles and runs/drives out good but is a real piece of work to work on in my opinion. I really dispise screwing with it for some reason. The complete dash has to come out to replace the actuator that is boogered up. The engineering is terrible in this car.

Not to pour fuel on the fire, but the sd might be onto something....:eek:

I don't think I would trust a Cobalt to get me across the street. Worthless POS that I wholeheartedly agree are real PITA's to work on. Unless you like one time use clips and plastic that breaks if you look at it crosswise.

Best of luck.

Isnt this something that you would have to remove the dash for on most, if not all cars? Plenty of people remove dashes on old Benzes to fix the retarded vacuum controlled climate systems.. doesnt mean they are bad cars.

The cobalt is a bad car for plenty of other reasons :D

The thing has to come out to the firewall to replace an actuator! MB is not that bad.

Isn't the Cobalt just the new Cavalier?

GM built the Cobalt here.. Now the Cruze... I actually toured the plant where the built them. Start to finish..stamping to final process. Despite quality of the car, still an amazing process.

The Cruze is not a bad car. Aside from the usual blind spots, it rides pretty well. My grandmother has one of the top models. Passenger seat is manual not electric. Somehow everytime I go to get in the car is complete awkward and I nearly hit my head. I'm only 5-7?!

I've ridden in a Cobalt before, my lowered 190E was more comfortable. I can't fathom working on one. Newer cars just lack character.

Also, whats with all these newer car engines? Is it just me or do they all sound/idle like crap?

My sister has a 12' Nissan, it sounds like crap, before that she had a 07' G6 which sounded like it was choking. My friend has an 09 Malibu the engine sounded...rough.

Maybe its just me..

Shame they didn't make a 1 liter (60 ci) Cobalt. If someone built a car called the Cobalt-60, people would know to stay away :D

That's a pretty standard repair. I dread the day when my truck's heat/ac blend valve goes out (they all do, it just takes time) because then I get to yank the whole dash :D

Perhaps the engineers' attempt at getting muscle-car horsepower out of a small-displacement engine while simultaneously conforming to increasingly stringent EPA emission guidlelines and acheiving 30 MPG highway mileage figures?
