Spectacular solar eclipse in U.S. Sunday

Rare Solar Eclipse to Occur Sunday - weather.com

Should be very neat for those in the southwest!! I'm hoping to see some part of it with a welding mask on, but not too hopeful in CT.

Just started here. Thanks for the welding helmet idea. View is great. Clouds are coming in though.

Clouds are covering the sun at the moment. I'm going to try taking some shots thru the welding helmet.

I couldn't notice much change in the brightness of the sun here in Denver. I doubt a person would have known an eclipse was happening without dark lenses. Eclipse was not full at this latitude. Moon moved across the lower 7/8ths of the sun but was never centered directly over it. Having a welding helmet on eclipse day gets you a lot of friends.

I was able to take some photographs but I was expecting it to be somewhat total, with more of the sun than a true total eclipse, being an annular type this time.

It soon ended though.

Difficult to see but the pinhole in the cardboard is projecting a tiny image of the sun with about 50percent shadow across the disk on the paper.

Here you can see it a bit more clearly. Using binoculars to project the image on to the background paper.

This is as close as I got to a ring of fire effect.

Eclipse on wife.

Eclipse on me.

Not very good pictures I'm afraid. If I'd have thought more clearly about it and prepared more thoroughly I could have done better. It never got completely dark, just had a strange change in the light value towards the middle of the event.
