Not a good test. Odd words and construction makes you slow down to deal with/correct. Reading speed varies greatly with writer and material anyway. You might read Harry Potter at one speed and law school textbooks at MUCH slower speed. Normally, I read pretty fast. My youngest son runs rings around me. If you read a whole book written like that test, your speed would pick up greatly as you become used to the terms and construction. Also, your spped will drop off greatly as you are put to sleep by some writting.

I'm a slow reader as well. If I feel like confirming that, I might take the test. I have a short attention span, I'll read two or three pages and come to the realization that I have no idea what I just read and have to start over again. I want to be a reader, my undiagnosed ADHD thinks otherwise.
My wife OTOH is a fast and voracious reader. She'll blow through a novel in a few hours over a weekend.

I've always been a fast reader. Since I was tested in 1st grade, I've always been more advanced than most at reading and at math...
I scored a 767 and was able to answer all questions correctly.

Interesting test! I'm at 567 with the correct answers. More important is reading comprehension however, I've seen that's where some folks on here struggle

Skimming the paragraph and pulling the important details out to be able to pass a test is easy.
I had a teacher in high school that didn't believe I could read like that, with accuracy. I was tested many times on details of the story or paragraphs I read. Finally, the teacher started asking questions like "How many sentences were in the paragraph?" While her question had nothing to do with the subject matter, she had set out to slow me down the the same level as the rest of the class. I was soon transfered to an advanced reading class, where I excelled. Reading the way I do, you miss some of the details, but wind up getting most of the important ones. My technique involves using my index finger to run across the words, and my eyes and brain pick up repeating words, larger and longer words, as well as names. If I feel more detail is needed, I'll skim it once more for deeper detail, but I still gather about the same amount of information each time. Slow readers drive me nuts...so do those that try to annalyse each an every letter. Get the details, gather the important information, and move on.

That method probably sucks a lot of the life out of fiction....
Even though I have been a fast reader since grade school, I try to deliberately slow down and smell the flowers when reading particularly good works of fiction. Bet Tolkien could slow you down a tad... (as long as you were remotely concerned about the history)

I read pretty slow, especially when I know there's a test at the end.
