Yeah, that would be another option. Just seems to me that if it's so important to take it with you, you'd want it with you. Not in a van parked outside.
But, hey, what do I know. I have no kids and no cell phone, so... MV |

iPhone costs ~$600 to replace if not subsidized. Might also have to do with metal detectors, though those are actually less common than you'd think in NY schools.

so basically, its only a matter of time till we hear about someone stealing one of these trucks and selling several thousand phones on ebay.
couple years back a local guy stole a salvation army collection van, had about 40 of those little pots in it, and what turned out to be like 5-8 grand if hes careening attempt at escape in a distinctively marked van with pots flying all over the place inside hadn't been stopped by police. I was working as a santa at the time. Never again

I think it is probably a heckuva idea. Does it stay right there at the school all day? Does the school get a cut?

My kids middle school doesn't lock their wifi. You'd think bright people would be smarter than that......especially at a school where you are allowed to have a phone, but only if its turned off and stays in the backpack while they are on campus.
Is kind of like giving a job in a liquor store to a alcoholic.

Looks like a school district van, the door logo looks govt. agency like anyhow. Strange stuff, I can only imagine the punishment for getting caught with a phone in school must be somewhat stiff or they wouldn't resort to this approach. I can only imagine that cells in school would be a serious drag for all involved, all trying to make education happen anyway. Would have to be a seriously boring job.
**EDIT** Seriously boring to check cell phones, not working on educating the flower of American youth.
