I always wanted a small gun in .25acp but the ammo is expensive. One of these days Ill get a .32acp walther.

I paid $26 for a box of .25 auto at Gander Mountain. Kind of expensive. The only reason I bought it there is I was in a rush and I had a gift certificate. I have been looking for a small pistol in either a .22 or 9mm because the ammo seems reasonable.
I have an AMT Backup in .45 auto I carry for personal protection. The trigger pull and kick is a little too much for my son to shoot.

the only thing I don't like about .22 pistols is they never seem reliable. I have a beretta bobcat and it can't get through 100 rounds without some kind of debilitating stoppage.

I have heard some stories about reliability issues with some .22 pistols.
My father has a Ruger MKI which he bought sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. It is in like new condition. It is a bit heavy for my son but the trigger pull is easy and he loves to shoot it. I have put 50+ rounds through it in one session with no issues whatsoever.

Nice Marlin. I have one similar to it, though a bit older. Mine is actually a Sears Roebuck version. I also have a Ruger 22/45 MK III which is dead reliable as long as you are only feeding it regular ammo. As soon as you feed it hollow nose forget it. The rounds persist in catching on the feed ramp. This actually seems to be a fault with the magazines rather than the pistol itself. One day I shall get around to fixing them. For now I just shoot regular target ammo with no problems after several thousand rounds.
- Peter.

Ruger MKII. I've shot plenty, my personal one is with a 5.5" bull barrel. Fun, accurate, reliable, heck, not even expensive.
The bull barrel is heavy, so you might want to choose something else. If I were to do it over again, I'd choose one of the often offered 4" bull barrel models. In stainless. About the only downside is that they can be a pain to disassemble/reassemble for cleaning. This is countered by the ability to shoot hundreds, if not thousands of rounds between teardowns though... You know what. Enough typing. I've gotta call my dealer. MV |
