GMC Jimmy Door Catch issue

So, how can I fix this?

I was able to bend it back so the door can close.

Do you have those red X's all over? Or only on the door catch portion?

Proper repair involves a MIG welding gun and some patience.

One of those things I have but patience on its own doesn't help

Ooooof. Front driver's door on a four door? I can't see any remedy that wouldn't require welding a plate to the door frame behind the catch. Might need thinner shims to keep the clearance the same.

I'm surprised there was enough fatigue for it to break through like that, doesn't look like there's any rust. I wonder if the alignment was off enough that the door was closing but it was flexing up/down/in/out every time it was closed?

I wish I knew.

I feel like if I can get some sort of flat iron bar that is thin enough and have some one tack it into place it will hold.

How did that happen? Is the door loose? The door pins always go bad in those.

Mig welding by a bundle of door wires is a bad idea.

Doesnt look like too bad of a repair, you only need some 1/8" plate. Remove the shim behind the catch. Cut the plate to fit on the flat portion, and get some JB weld, rivets, and a coat of paint on it. Fix the door pins FIRST, so you know where to put the catch.

Or, replace the entire pillar...

ordering new pins and bushings tomorrow, $6.50 shipped from rock auto for two pin sets. Autozone wants $7 a pin set.

The door doesn't have the door open springs which I find odd.
