“I would insist on every individual having a unique ID permanently attached — a barcode if you will — an implanted chip to provide an easy, fast inexpensive way to identify individuals,” she said on The Forum, a weekly show that features "a global thinking" discussing a "radical, inspiring or controversial idea" for 60 seconds .

In 2002, an implantable ID chip called VeriChip was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The chip could be implanted in a person's arm, and when scanned, could pull up a 16 digit ID number containing information about the user.
It was discontinued in 2010 amid concerns about privacy and safety.
Still scientists and engineers have not given up on the idea.

Oooh, scary chips. Every animal I own is chipped, and I own a reader for verifying ownership and herd registration numbers at livestock shows I judge. I chip others' animals, whether pets or livestock. Nobody's going to chip humans against their will. It's a non-issue.

I thought it was a reference to Larry.

Yeah, you're probably right.
Until the government tells one you have to have it to conduct commerce, banking, real estate and so on.

UK tried to go that way right after 911. Didn't happen yet but they still tried.

Think of all the hassles an ID implant would eliminate and how this could benefit global man.

So if everybody had a ID mark on their body, sure would eliminate all kinds of fraud.

I read a book about this one time.

Just an FYI, the more likely number is 616 not 666. 666 seems to be a later variant.

elchivito 06-01-2012 11:12 PM

So if we're all numbered 666, or 616, how in the devil will they be able to tell us apart?
I worry about the price of hay and grain and coffee and beer and whiskey, not whether somebody's going to want to chip me. They'll have to get past my own personal number, 1911, to do it. Chipping a corpse seems like a waste of resources to me.

the Nazis didn't have access to microchips but instead used tattoos. IBM was brought in to computerize geneology records (via Census records) so that the Nazis could easily identify racial groups that they decided should be exterminated.

Speaking personally I'm down with #444, a bottle o' single malt and a woman who wears a garter belt......

elchivito 06-03-2012 12:42 PM

A garter belt on the right lady is more than enough clothing, but make mine Rye.

cmbdiesel 06-03-2012 12:55 PM

I'm equal opportunity...

Garter belt and single malt
Gun belt and rye
Cowboy hat and Jack
Little french maid outfit and a bottle of Kornog even...

They all have merit;)

they already have a numbering system consisting of 18 digits. it consist of a bar code shown on the back of most driver's licenses. 18 digits is enough numerical combinations to number every man, woman and child in the world. similar to the way the US fish and wildlife people tag fish for tracking purposes, you have been tagged.

Why? We're all gonna die anyway so why not "in the saddle" as it were.

Could chips be used to verify eligibility to vote?

Would chipping be considered unfair to non-whites?
