That was fun
:D :D :D
A bunch of Land Rover guys were good enough to let me join them in some off-roading this weekend. They were quite surprised when I showed up as I didn't tell them what I was bringing  I let them know that this was my very first off-road trip so I was a complete newbie aside from all the reading that i've done. They were shocked at how good I did.... http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6...0602131839.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/7...0602131824.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/466...0602124633.jpg http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/4...0602124916.jpg http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/6...0602124629.jpg I showed up to their campsite yesterday morning and immediately became quite nervous when I saw how aggressive the tires were on all the Land Rovers as well as all the equipment some of them had (I only had the basic "all season" Michelins that came with the truck) Now I knew the Gwagen was good off road from everything I have read over the years and from people i've talked to, Land Rover owners amongst them. However to actually get out there and prove it ...that was something else. The blue 110 was driven by a professional and couldn't get up the sloop pictured and had to be pulled up. (I made it on the first shot without trouble!) My already great respect for the G-Class has just increased 2 fold :) (Stay tuned for videos later this week) |
Those Rovers can't touch that G wagon:).

The only thing Land Rover is good for is to round up the sheep :D This world wide illusion that is "the best" off-roader is just that, an illusion.

You ever worked on a Rover:eek:?

Cool!
What are the main differences that allow a G to do better than a LR under those conditions? |
I'm guessing the G has lockable differentials and that blue Defender didn't or at least didn't have enough??

The locking diffs certainly made a difference as did my shorter wheelbase but again, i'm a novice so i'm still very surprised. Also I should mention that the morning began with trying to get one of the series started....then on the highway the hood from another 88 series rover literally came flying off and had to be stapped down after its recovery... classic rovering :) I like those guys, they do persevere. |
^^^^ did you enjoy the "karmalottery"?:D

Looks like a lot of fun, get some real rubber on there and that little G will be unstoppable. BFGoodrich*All-Terrain T/A KO |
What kind of professional driver was the guy in the blue 110??? A Taxi driver??
Geez, I could make it up that with the 126.... If you have a locking diff, then you have a huge advantage over the others. Looks like fun, glad you are getting the G-Wagon out there! |

Haha, no, you couldn't, its a lot steeper then it looks. ;) He had a lot of experiance on several off-road expiditions to Canada and North Africa. He certainly knew his stuff, it was more the limitation of the 110 Yes i'm definetly glad I went.it would be a shame to not use it for what it was designed for. |

IMO, that terrain doesn't look too challenging.
Think my ML with its lift and mud tires would have made it through there. Fulcrum, you need to lift your G and stick some better tires under it. You will be able to tackle quite a bit more difficult terrain, and take less risks with damaging stuff. |
