winter road treatment.

After purchasing my last two vehicles I swore never to buy another vehicle that was from Western PA. I am in the heart of the rust belt and mechanical issues I can deal with but not rust. Around here they use salt to treat the roads in the winter time. As I search for another vehicle I am wondering about other parts of the US that experience harsh weather and what they use to treat roads.

Feel free to chime in with your location and what they treat the roads with.

Northern Nevada. Carson City uses salt brine before an expected heavy snow. This usually only happens a couple of times a year. Douglas County doesn't use salt at all. Both will sand roads under winter conditions. Vehicles out here rust very slowly unless they've been up at Lake Tahoe. It's a ski resort area and snowfall and salting are what you'd expect for that.

My great grandfather had a farm in Johnstown many years ago.

OK uses a salt mixture starting a few years ago. I am NOT happy about that . Used to live in MN and the salt there ruined several cars of mine.

Tennessee uses salt in my area during winter. However temps get above freezing in the day time, and I wash off the salt as soon as possible.I also use a garden sprayer with one part gas to 3 parts dirty motor oil.I then undercoat car serveral times in the winter.I live in the country with gravel driveway so oil on it does not hurt it

The story I heard is that they filled in a valley to build the airport. The farm was in the valley.
