The day they book an Englebert Humperdinck or Wayne Newton "tribute" singer at the "Center for the Arts" in this benighted town, is the day I will move out of here for good.

Srsly.

Based on recent talent, I fear that day is not too far off.

Old Wayne has had so many facelifts it's not really him anymore. Looks like some guy wearing a WN mask.

Back in the 60s and 70s there was plenty of horrendous crap as well that all sounded the same, but over the years, its filtered out to only the stuff we like to remember and played on classic stations. Just like you only hear the greatest hits from any era.

Stuff thats on now is current, so we hear everything thats out there, but there is plenty of great music too, just way more background noise at the same time. The great song, and the thousand songs that are sorta similar, but not as good.

30 years from now, it will be filtered and refreshingly delicious of only the best from the era

True words those. With the exception of Rap, which is not music but simply the best reason yet for genocide. In my not so humble opinion of course.

Of course as a classical music lover I'm fortunate to listen on a higher plane. The junk from that era was filtered out centuries ago...

And thankfully we now have the internet which allows easy exposure to music from the entire world without being beholden to what the industry in the US serves up.

There aren't many genres I can say I truly don't like. The only three that come to mind are opera, any of the variations of heavy metal/hair band stuff, and today's modern country-for-people-who-don't-like-country (although Taylor Swift is cute enough to sing anything without my criticism, sosume) I listen to a lot of classical/baroque and jazz.

I can listen to but don't care for modern hip-hop. Pretty forgettable all of it. This is near the top of my "what to play at my funeral" list.

I like a lot of the new country that's coming out.

I also listen to a lot of Jimmy Buffett, perfect for when your drinking on the water.:D:cool:

This is my theme song, and Alan Jackson has a freaken sweet boat. I think its an old Rybo, don't get much better than that!

Kid Rock All Summer Long - YouTube

I also like Kid Rock.

He has a gold plated plow on his Chevy, now that is classy!

I was Rickrolled once, I ended up having to restart my Mac to get him to go away. :D

All this planned modern hoo haa with people named Gaga just isn't the same.

Where can I turn to for that chance sudden tear in the bright blue pants of a fat middle aged man with plastic hair singing about something preposterous?

ill fitting pastel polyester "POOP" pants?:D

400 years ago JS Bach did counter point and fugues better than anyone before or since.
Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Wagner, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky , and a host of other Russians all advanced the craft, breaking rules for effect when they desired.

This is the 18 yr old daughter of a close friend of mine. I went and watched her perform a few weeks ago at the Eastman School of Music. Incredible talent. Please take a second and watch something of hers I took off Youtube

Lets hear it for Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw. They laid the groundwork for future sound much akin to what TBO intimated regarding electronic music.
