Tax related question on an automtive purchase
 

I have been buying and leasing cars for years now. I have a NY drivers license, have a residence in NY and FL. I was in the middle of a purchase this weekend when the dealer I was purchasing the car from stated that there is a new NYS law in effect. I must pay tax according to where I am licensed to which is NY. I have all my cars registered in FL and this is the first time I am hearing about this law. I cannot find this law anywhere online. Does this sound legit or what? I mean the difference in money is only a few hundred dollars but I would like some input on this. Why can some dealers charge me FL tax and other dealers cannot? I was told due to tax audit reasons. I am just lost here
