I dont know about sandwiches but my bosses son made it through San Antonio with a razor blade in his wallet. He forgot it was there and they found it at a Florida airport.

No you must purchase the $9 Peanut Butter and Jelly on the other side of security.
Seriously: All food must go through the X-ray machine. Do NOT bring food to the security checkpoint unwrapped, as shown in the image on the right. Food must be wrapped or in a container. Unpeeled natural foods like fruit are okay, but half-eaten fruits must be wrapped. There is no restriction on the amount of baby formula, breast milk, or medicines you can bring, but they must be declared and presented for inspection at the checkpoint. A sample of fresh breast milk may be taken by officers for comparision purposes

I tried bringing 4 cans of Skyline Chili back to UT for the wife in 2009, and was denied. It would have been ok in the checked luggage, but not the carry on.

I didn't take my banana last time I flew.
Seriously, I know they'll let you take fruit through.

It was a cold morning so he had his jacket on from the previous day on the range. When he went through the detector it went off, they told him it must be the brass zipper on his jacket & let him go through. When he was on the plane he put his hand in his jacket pocket & found he had 6 X 38 rounds from the previous day. When he got off the plane he made a quick trip to the gents & put them in the rubbish with a paper over the top. He then walked back out & went through the exit & on his way.

I once was ushered quickly through the airport security. SBD's and SBV's have their uses.

Why would he bother throwing them away if he was already at his destination and didn't have to go through another detector?

I'm going to wear my all purpose Columbia shirt with the two big pockets in front and put a sandwich in each pocket.

Sandwiches are not listed among barred items, nor are they a liquid that must be in a small container, etc. You should be fine, at least so long as you don't have wires hanging out of them. |

Even with liquids, many airports aren't terribly thorough. I've got past security at LGA with a bottle of water or other drink in my bag on a fairly regular basis. Don't know if they're incompetent, or are somewhat flexible about enforcing rules, but I'm glad they are.

No problem with carry-on PBJ sammiches. Just eat 'em before you get to the TSA folks.

Why? Food isn't prohibited.
