U-571
U-571 (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It came if from Netflix today. While NOT a true story, the storyline is pretty cool...even if it didn't happen. I have to say this for the movie...So far it's the best movie we've played for full surround sound. The scenes in the beginning with the Germans commanding the U-571 had great sound...the ticks and creaks while it was evading the destroyer, and then disabled by the depth charges was quite impressive. My only wish is to watch it again in Blueray format...I can only imagine how it would sound from that.

Check out the sound effects in 'Super 8' during the train wreck.
You will never be happy with anything less than a surround sound system after that. |

The scene where they get rattled from the depth charges is pretty awesome when played back with surround sound!

I didn't think there was much of a difference at first, but we've rented some of the movies in one format that we already own in the other, and compared them...Bluray always comes out on top when you have a decent set up and speakers. High-Def FAQ: Blu-ray and HD DVD Audio Explained | High-Def Digest has good info on the differences.

as far as im concerned, the definitive submarine movie is "Das Boot" Das Boot (1981) - IMDb If you think the depth charge stuff is awesome is U-571, its pretty intense in das boot. That should be the next one that Jplinville plays in his home theater. There are a few scenes where the hull of the submarine is cracking around them, and I can only imagine what that sounds like in surround sound. I like U-571 too, I only wish it was accurate. Seems like a story could have been told that was closer to the truth and just as entertaining. I also was annoyed at the token black guy thing going on in U-571, at least early on. That struck me as silly Hollywood PC stuff.

It was a good story line, but made in such a way that, if you weren't a history buff, it could make you think it was real.

It appears "fictional" story lines, i.e. creating the idea of revisionist history in the minds of the public is a goal of some hollywood insiders. Check out Oliver Stone's movie, "JFK". Most people seem to think the movie, "JFK" accurately portrays the historical events surrounding the Kennedy assassination.
