My next MB...
I know EXACTLY what I'm going to get next when I do get back into the Mercedes game. I have looked a bunch of newer ones, and I keep coming back to the same car:
It has to be an S class, because once you go S you can never go back!:D:cool: Its going to be a: 2010 or newer S600. I want blue with a black interior, no other color. I'm going to add a Renntech: R1 upgrade to bring power up to 635HP/780TQ. Renntech V3 lowering module, cause I want Justin low.:D:cool: Brabus wheels, 20's all around. Dark tints or course. Complete de badge. Rader/laser detector/jammer and full countermeasures.;):D http://cthst.com/drivingemotion/8A207496-1sm.jpg Now do I want the carbon fiber Renntech engine cover?:D Oh and the limiter, that's got to go of course...not that I would ever drive that fast... |
Why not a S65 for that extra umpff?
|
To much money, late model S65's do have a bit of resale.
|
That car fits you to a tee Hatti:). I have a couple people with them that I help out on occasion and I think they are (2007+) probably the best car out there. With that said parts for them are expensive.
They are very impressive when you nail it at 80 mpg:eek:. |

Actually don't they tend to depriciate like a stone? |
The AMG models seem to be doing better than the non-AMG models, but my eternal daily 5 minute scan on CL and Autotrader reveals that all AMG models hold up better than non-AMG models. Which makes perfect sense to me.
|
I personally would like to get a C63 or E63, or even a CLS63, but I am worried about a major issue regarding that engine that popped up on MBWorld:
M156 cylinder head sealing concerns - MBWorld.org Forums Apparently, Mercedes-Benz/AMG used weak head bolts in a large range of engines. (M157? is the engine code) The M113K even has a fueling problem at cylinder 8 which can cause it to go fairly lean and destroy it's compression, but I think it only really affect cars that have had the boost pressure from the supercharger increased via a smaller pulley. This company has a page with a fix that also explains the issue a bit more. http://www.fabtech-performance.com/AMG_Performance.html |

As for the 63 - they also have problems where they eat lifters/camshafts... Look it up on mb world, theres a class action suit being filed for it. IMO, the coilpacks are the weakest links on the V12TTs. The rest of it is pretty damn bulletproof. |
Oh, and youll never have my kind of low.
Trust me, youll get tired of break s h it! |
Oh I want low.:D

ill measure my oilpan on my 55, and lets see who can go lower. |

Oh and its still cheaper than a boat. |
Coil packs on the engine. ABC suspension. Other then that buy it and
Enjoy it! Cars that are garage queens tend to be nothing but trouble vs. cars that are driven. |
How much are coil packs? A few grand maybe? ABC? $5k to sort +/-?
No different than owning any other high end car. A T belt job on a 575M isn't cheap either. |
For one coil pack for the 215/220 it can run about $1,000. No doubt is a pretty big deal. Rebuilt ones can be bought as well. The ABC varies depending on the specific issue at hand. Doing the fluid changes are a must. Hands down a great and very interesting system but like all higher end cars do keep money aside and expect the unexpected. Indi shops are great when out of CPO.
I mentioned in another post before about a friend of mine with his first Maybach who had close to 100k on it with no issues. Same engine/suspension pretty much. |
I spent $2200 for 2 coil packs. IIRC, my ABC didn't have too many issues, spent around $900 for repairs, don't recall what was done.

Yeah, that's about how low you would need to go to be on my level. |
Wow. I couldn't get it into my driveway.
Solution: New HOUSE! |

In less than two years after the warranty ran out on my 600, I lost in excess of $30K in depreciation, maintenance, and repairs. Over $15K of that was in repairs on the ABC and, of course, the coil packs, misc repairs, and intercooler pump. A boat would have retained its value better and been cheaper to operate.
If you buy the car, sell it immediatly after the warranty runs out. That way, you will only take around a $1,500/mth depreciation hit. I was looking at SL65's yesterday. In under 6 years and less than 50,000 miles, the car I was looking at depreciated $130,000. |

Yep, still cheaper then a boat. |

Lets see: Summer dockage, $3,500 winter storage is about $1,700 Just super basic maintenance, no upgrades, ie bottom painting, once a year wax, winterization, figure $2k. Insurance $1k. $8,200 a year, before you turn the key.:D |

I'd never own one out of warranty. |
It can be difficult to find a decent 3rd party warranty after the factory one expires.

If you find one, It'll be sketchy. It'll be FL-based and it'll go bankrupt and your SOL.

Don't get me wrong. I love the 600 series cars. They are very solid and the engine is the smoothest I've ever owned. But, damn, they are expensive to own, insure, and operate. Find a kit to remove the ABC and I would own one again. |

Sorry to say but you're fighting a loosing battle. The equation above likely assumes the fuel tanks are empty. Probably another $1,500 just to fill them up....once  |

http://www.polarkraftboats.com/can-i-afford-a-boat The cost index of a $75,000 boat is $559/mth with 10% of the purchase price as an additional expense per year for fuel, insurance, maintenance, and storage. An older boat will be more expensive to operate due to maintenance costs but compare a similar year boat to a similar year S600 with similar purchase price. Compare apples to apples so to speak. |

I was thinking about a Tiara 31 or Albemarle 32.
2002 Albemarle 32 Express (Diesel Power! Turnkey) for sale | Morehead City (28557), NC What I really want but cannot afford at the moment is a Hattares 55. |
Wow, I love that boat and it's a diesel.
