Has anyone have the American Picker guys come through there area? They were in Washington State and Idaho last week, and passed through my city and out laying areas, and I missed them. I can't wait to see what they picked, I sort of have an idea of some of the places they hit in North Central Washington. If they didn't hit one place, they missed out on some Rolls Royce Merlin engines!

All I know is they have inflated the price of good junk. Before they came along I could buy vintage coke and pepsi picnic coolers all day for $50-75.. Now, forget about it. Don't even get me started on the price of signs.

How can they inflate when they buy below retail?

People watch the show and see what they buy for and then on the show they list what they plan on listing the crap for.

The were in Danville KY a while back at the Pioneer Playhouse. And it wasn't a week later that people came into our antique store thinking that they were pickers. They would say that I had to leave some meat on the bone so they could make money. I TOLD them that I wasn't in the business of selling antiques to wanabe pickers. One guy got smart with me and I almost ***** slapped him. The wife and I have been buying and selling antiques for almost 30 years.

I feel for you, these shows are so edited and scripted that they themselves leave no meat on the bone.

One of the worst is the restoration guy who, for example, charges $7500 to restore a brass NCR cash register that could be bought in minty original condition for $1500 or so. Real collectors don't want clear coat paint and vinyl graphics prited off a computer scan. It's only original once.

The other downside of these shows is that morons now think it's ok to peek/poke around people's property.

Very true, and they prey on ignorant sellers who are mesmerized by the prospect of being on tv. The fake smiles and laughter go away quickly when they realize the seller knows what his items are worth.

The skinny guy with the girly laugh reminds me of nails on a chalkboard.

I belive it was in May that it was disclosed that all these reality shows - Pawn Stars, Restoration Dude, Swamp People, Pickers, IRT, House Hunters, etc are all based upon some fact but everything else is scripted. The bottom line if it gives you enjoyment to watch it, have fun and enjoy its entertainment.

Say what you want but they end up in some crazy places.

I find it funny when Rick on Pawn Stars always just happens to be standing there looking down everytime someone walks up.

Several months ago on a series called "Renaissance Man", the was a show about the Merlin engine. A rebuildable core is still worth $40,000. That may be beyond what Frank and Mike are willing to spend.

Hmm, these shows must be on opposite "Masterpiece Theatre" "NOVA" and "Top Gear" . . . never heard of 'em.

Rick and Chumley would go there.

Nothing like a Merlin going by in a shallow high speed dive.
