Just Bought Me a Sort of American Car!

My father had one of these when I was a child and I always wanted one. It's a 1957 Metropolitan Nash with a 1.7 litre Austin Healy Motor.

Came across a good example and purchased it this past weekend. The pic isn't the one I bought, but is identical.

More pics when I find the camera. Still unpacking from the move.

My Dad had one also, same color. Has MG/AH chassis parts. Later on I bought a '73 MG Midget and had fond memories of knocking out the link pins with Dad.
Herbert the monster lived in the trunk according to the old boy...LOL We were 4 and 5 then.
Saw one recently in about the same condition as yours.
Wouldn't mind another Midget either. It was fun.

Just what you needed, another car!

Sweet little ride. I've always liked those.

Oh man, color me SERIOUSLY jealous. That one is way up high on my "must own and drive daily before I die" list.

Sir Pig, I bow in humble admiration. You are currently ranked as my Numero Uno Hero.

One of my neighbors had one of those when I was a wee lad in school.

The guy was a school teacher and the car was salmon and white.

He weighed about 350 pounds and so whenever he got in to drive it, it tilted WAAAAAAY over to the left side.

We kids thought it was hilarious to watch.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this car featured prominently in the cartoonist Bill Griffith's strip. "Zippy the Pinhead" drove these, when he was not driving a 1950 Studebaker bulletnose business coupe (with the wrap around rear train like rear window.

edit: I am not wrong:

I admit, I have to hand it to myself. hahahaha

Our preacher had one of those. I remember it from when I was about 5 years old. It was unique. His wife was pretty too....a Redhead IIRC.

The neighbor had one when I was about 10. It was even the same color as the one in the picture. I thought it was really cool. Also down the street was a BMW Isetta. It had the door in the front and was three wheeled IIRC.

The Isetta had 4 wheels - the back two were very close together. I almost rear-ended one of those on the autobahn.

I never saw one on the Autobahn when I lived there 69 to 71, but I saw several Smart cars on the Autobahn when I did lots of business travel over there in the early 2000's. Either one is kind of scary to see on the Autobahn. A wreck with one of them on the Autobahn sure would make a bloody mess.
