Feelings on gun collectors and hobbyists
So in the light of all of these gun control topics, what do you guys feel about gun collectors and hobbyists? I am a gun owner myself, but my uncle who gave me these guns (a cheap but accurate .22/.410 combo and a .50 cal muzzleloader) is a gun collector that lives in North Georgia (he is quite a bit country). He owns enough guns to arm a small militia. He probably has over 150 guns throughout his home which consist of rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and semiautomatic assault rifles. I do not think he owns any automatic weapons mainly because they are extremely expensive. He owns a large lot of land away from his house in a sparsely populated area that he uses as his shooting range. He goes and shoots his guns with family (which has included my brother, some of my friends, and I and another of my uncles who is extremely liberal but loves guns). He makes sure everyone has on the proper safety equipment before shooting starts (ear and eye protection), along with knowing all gun safety rules. He does not use bullets containing lead, and tries to pick up as much of the brass as he can before he leaves his shooting range so animals don't come in contact with it. As far as I know he has no criminal record and I know for a fact he is a pacifist but is not afraid to defend himself or his family and does carry a gun on him at all times (he has good reason to, as he works in a bad part of Atlanta). So what are your feelings on people like this? Should they miss out on what they like to do because some people don't agree with guns?

Not sure I would carry open. Just from the fact that morons will panic and that if you wanted to do something, you are going to know I have a gun and be ready for it. I'd rather keep you guessing and not know so you cannot take precautions and get careless and give me an advantage you didn't know I had.

Not my hobby, but people should be able to collect what they want, so long as they don't use it to harm others. Actually HAVING a gun collection would make me feel less safe. I travel quite a bit, and I'd be worried that it would be stolen and used to hurt someone while I was away.

I do enjoy lighting up the AK (semi auto of course) but the cheapness in me sees $ signs going out the barrel with every shot. I am of the opinion that it has got to be one of the best engineered guns out there. I can see why they get handed out as weapons against the government. Opps, did I say that, I meant to say purchased legally by civilians in Syria to use when they want to put the representation back into their taxation.
Wonder what kind of gun control Syria has?

I doubt it. In some circumstance, perhaps he would have less chance of getting held up, but he also brings with him a huge chance of getting the gun taken from him and used on him as well. Not that I agree that anyone should be carrying a firearm, but if you are, it might as well be concealed carry, that way the gun itself is not a target. It seems to me that concealed and open carry people have this miraculous notion that whomever is carrying the weapon at any time is completely aware of his surroundings, and will pretty much be ready for any situation that arises, which is unrealistic. Far more likely that the awareness that they are carrying a gun will make them overconfident and cocky. They have a gun, so they know they will win any altercation, but chances are the awareness of that will make them vulnerable and less committed initially. Chances are cocky gun owner would let someone get too close and assume that the gun would be a deterrent, which it may be for most people, but theres always that 1 percent, who are quick and committed. And then where are you?

I don't shoot as much as I used to. Flying fills my spare time now.
I have no shortage of toys to do it with including plenty of firearms and reloading equipment. Beyond sport shooting, we are in a situation in this country where the bad guys have no shortage of guns and no matter how many laws might be passed to make them illegal, the bad guys will always have them because they are perfectly willing to break the law. For that reason, taking away the right for law abiding citizens to arm themselves for the purpose of self defense would result in only the bad guys having them. This would not be a pleasant thing for the law abiding citizens of this country.

All gun owners should be like him. However, if at some point he would seek psychiatric help for whatever reason, he should surrender such guns.
