Dumb Question-

This is coming from the most politically naive person in this forum (me).

If the purpose of the war was to get Osama and since they got him already, shouldn't the war be over?

What am I missing?

t walgamuth 07-30-2012 09:37 AM

Don't we all wish it were so simple.;)

Putting our troops into a country is so simple compared to pulling them out without leaving chaos. The fear is that if we pull out without leaving a sustainable strong afgan government structure the whole region will disentegrate and a more general war might erupt.

We seem to have succeeded in Iraq at least to some extent so far so it may be possible in Afganistan too but there are many significant differences between Afganistan and Iraq.

With Pakastan and India sharing borders with Afaganistan the fear is they will engage each other (they are traditional enemies). They both have nukes so we are working very hard at all times to keep them inside their own borders.

A nuclear exchange between them could result in a climactic change endangering the very existance of much of mankind.

Osama was the head of an organization that wanted to kill Americans. But there were many followers, desiring to carry on the same mission.

The purpose of us over there is to protect the poppy fields.

The purpose of us over there is to protect the oil fields.

The purpose of us over there is to get (and keep our young men into a combat mentality.

The purpose of us over there is to protect the US petro dollar.

The purpose of us over there is to confiscate Iraqi's gold, acquired through gold for oil exchanges, which came about from TPTB removing Iraqi banks from the "SWIFT" banking system.

The purpose of us over there is to protect the interests of the Bush & Chenney Industrial War Machine.

Have I missed any, can I take off my tin foil hat now?

Hmmm........ Silly me! I thought that Bush & Cheney have been out of office for about 3 1/2 years. Did I wake up in a parallel universe this morning?

If B.O. is the Messiah that so many of you say he is, why hasn't he fulfilled his campaign promise and gotten us the hell out of there by now?

Could you point out where Obama stated that the US would be out of Afghanistan by now?? Or are we making things up??

How'd he do in Iraq??

What does the tiff between Pakistan and India have to do with any of our current or planned wars? And, you believe in climate change?

That's why it's important that you don't mind full-time 100% surveillance of your communications, travel, and other activities.

I don't want to defend Obama here; I'm not what you'd call impressed. But I do feel that anyone who is a strong critic needs to make the case for how much better off we'd be under a McCain/Palin administration. I think it would be quite a challenge to make that case.

We were there for previously stated reasons. (Protect our economy from potential downturn due to oil shock that could have come with turmoil in that region). It's not any fault but our own that this country is energy dependant on foreign oil….wait of course it is George Buses fault.

George Bush orchestrated 911

Our economy sucks because of George Bush
Blame George Bush for everything because its easy……..what a joke. Peoples ignorance never ceases to amaze me.

If president Obama actually used the time and energy he spends blaming George Bush and others for this countries problems he could probably get something done. The only thing he has accomplished is rack up more debt than any other president in US history…..wait that is probably somehow linked to George Bush right?

Who here has called Obama a messiah?

Who here has ever made the claim that Obama fits the definition below? Please cite your proof.

Mes·si·ah (m-s)
n.
1. also Mes·si·as (m-ss) The anticipated savior of the Jews.
2. also Messias Christianity Jesus.
3. messiah One who is anticipated as, regarded as, or professes to be a savior or liberator.

You constantly use terms like zealot and messiah when referring to the President and anyone who may happen to support him, even partially. It's my contention that your own beliefs are so shallow, so weak and ill-considered that you cannot argue them on their own merits without resorting to your version of playground taunts. What are you, like 12?

I'm no McCain fan, but it's hard to imagine him doing any worse. I also can't imagine him dragging us into such a miserable failure of economic policies. I really don't think McCain would have wasted time trying to have the US Government be a bunch of thugs and take over healthcare. And he certainly would not have wasted tax payers money on a Stimulus package that obviously was not going to work.

I also doubt that McCain would have done anything like issue executive priviledge to cover up for his AG's screw ups instead of firing him and moving on.

That said, asking someone to make a case for something that never happened is a pretty ridiculous thing to expect. We will never know and can never make a case one way or the other.

At this point, the strain of the presidency would have killed that old coot or caused him to lose what's left of his marbles. Enter President Palin onto the world stage...

That's fair, it is a ridiculous hypothetical; nevertheless, thinking about it can give us some perspective. I think it's fair to say that one thing that would be different with McCain is that he wouldn't have wasted any time getting us into war with Iran. He was practically giddy at the prospect. I think that, and his choice of VP cost him a lot of votes.
What the heck were we talking about? I forget.
