that jalopnik article is silly. If the auger actually can work, and you have property, that thing is certainly worth 500 bucks.

All that steel would probably bring almost that in scrap alone. Sometimes the snarkyness of the jalopnik writers can get annoying.

Anyone who's every looked for purpose built stuff like that know they can command a surprising price. Bet you the auger blades alone on the front of the jeep would be 500 to 1000 bucks

Agreed. Whomever is selling it is either devoid of ambition/imagination or just plain fed up looking at it.

If the equipment could be transplanted onto another chassis it must be worth way more than $500 to someone who could use it.

I get way more of a headache from the commenters on Jalopnik than the writers. Some of the chattering masses would have us believe they're slumming when they're forced to take the Cayman to the country club 'cause it's raining....

That'll get put to use if I can get my hands on it (no response to the voice mail yet!). We've got two acres that need fencing.

Assuming the jeep is running (yeah, BIG assumption) and the mechanical bits working, that thing is worth several times the asking price. Heck, even if the jeep is nothing more than a tool holder, it's worth more than the asking price.

Well, fine, be that way

Seller has taken a deposit (not from me, danggit). Buyer is supposed to come back for it this weekend.... if that falls through, I'm getting called back.

Well, at least not that way. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

For your sake, I hope the deal falls through.

Those are cool. I once watched a guy digging holes with on at a job site at one of our schools. It looked a bit more substantial than this one with a drivers seat that could be turned around thru 180 to run the equipment on the back. The guy said there was a company that specializes in that sort of conversion. He sure seemed able to dig a bunch of large holes in a hurry.

i picked up a really cool post hole digger from my local junkyard for $10.it is somewhat like a gas powered ice auger, but has a ford starter motor on it with a gear reduction and it just hooks up to a 12 volt battery.for digging hole around the yard i just whip the john deere lawn mower close and i'm set.
