how to remove sinowal trojan

Preface - I'm still on Windows XP and I still won't get a Mac.

I'm looking for a way to remove the sinowal trojan that my AV identifies but can't remove or can't keep away. I'm in an interminable loop of scan -> quarantine -> reboot -> scan -> quarantine -> reboot... Lots of advice to use Malwarebytes but it can't keep sinowal out either. Lots of advice to use removers which are no longer available. There's some advice to remove it from the registry but I need step-by-step guidance which I can't find. The PC is usable but I won't check important accounts from this PC for now. Help!

Thanks,
Sixto (or am I?)

Remove hard drive. Scan with another PC. Or use an bootable antivirus off of USB stick or DVD.

Have you tried Avast boot-time scan?

I dunno if the following sites address the specific virus but both are worthy of a try. They are free

Housecall.trendmicro.com
f-secure.com

Also the recommendation someone made of putting the drive in a 2nd machine to permit a scan to run is a good one.

Try using safe-mode with network support to run the ones above, if you can’t run them with a typical boot of the OS.
