Bill Kristol said.....

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said Monday that he thinks Mitt Romney should pay a higher tax rate, calling the rate he pays on his investments "weird. I personally -- if I were designing the tax code -- would have a tax code in which Mitt Romney paid more than 13 percent, given what I know about the kind of investments he made money from," Kristol said Monday on C-Span. The conservative commentator added that he thought there would be no "economic detriment" to Romney if he paid more and repeated his call for Romney to release more tax returns.

This is REALLY funny!

Billy Kristol, as an entertainer, PROBABLY makes most of his money as compensation rather than return on investment. He is just being jealous and stupid. The same tax laws apply to him as well as Romney.

Romney and others who make most of their money from investment, pay taxes on return on investment. If THAT rate is raised, especially with current interest rates, it will drastically reduce investment. Why would someone invest money when the tax on the returns would eat up the profit? Without investment, the economy can not grow.

I think that there is a bit that is set in the brain of many liberals that makes it impossible for them to understand this fourth grade math.

Ground Loop, you've been called out on this many times. Please cite evidence or at least good reasons for your wacky assertion that people and companies with excess capital will not invest it in order to prevent paying taxes on profits. It is not a very practical strategy, and has been refuted in many places.

I don't necessarily disagree with Kristol. But the system is what it is. Rewrite the tax code and eliminate the loopholes, until then it's just class envy. I'm sure as hell not sending the IRS one penny more than I legally have to and have a hard time begrudging those, who just happen to make a lot more money than I do, who do the same.

Assuming it's legit.

Agreed. It would be a side issue except for the fact that Romney wants to lower his even more and increase yours and mine.

VERY well said. It's amazing how the class warfare movement is demonizing Romney and others for paying their taxes according to the law. I wonder if the CRITICIZERS are willing to pay more to the IRS than what they require?

I don't think any editior at the Weekly Standard has been called an entertainer.

Because you saw it in a Romney ad?

It's not class warfare, it's a question of integrity, and Mitt has yet to show any.

Bill Kristol? That guy's a comic genius. He says all that stuff with a totally dead-pad straight up delivery. He's got Colbert beat by a mile. You could easily be forgiven for thinking he was serious, if it wasn't so obviously looney.
