Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith

snoozefest

30 years and six movies later and despite all the
technological advances in moviemaking,
the best Lucas can come up with is 60 minutes of lightsaber duels?
That stuff was passe' 4 movies ago.

The early films at least had uplifting moments,
corny though they may have been.
This film was a constant downer.

There were no touches of levity either,
which help so much to leaven a heavy theme.
I guess Lucas was afraid to try humor,
after the Jar Jar Binks fiasco?

Thumbs down.

I chuckled twice, during the entire flick.

and once when Goldblum swatted the dog,
both of which seemed like they might have been ad libs?

That was a very lame attempt at satire, in my eyes.
Pointless and unfunny... and I'm a Bill Murray fan.

An example of good satire, for me, was 'Galaxy Quest'...
and I'm NOT a Tim Allen fan.
It was clever and entertaining.
Two qualities that were absent in 'The Life Aquatic'.

Best, concise review I've read in years was for the movie "Twister" with Helen Hunt:

It blows, it sucks, they wreck a lot of trucks!

There were a lot of hysterical reviews of 'Gigli'

"After watching 'Gigli', I had to rent 'Glitter', to cleanse my palate."

I walked out on Steve Izuzuuuu...pure crap!

Most flicks that have come out in last few YEARS are cheap crap too...

Lately if I see a movie and it doesn't totally suck I rate it as good....that's how bad cinema is ...

Last good movie I saw was George of the Jungle.....talking apes...huh huh

Just got back from seeing Walk The Line. Probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Both characters did an outstanding job and I found Witherspoon pretty hot in this movie. The movie was actually a pretty good love story.
On a side note - I probably have about ever Johnny Cash record album ever produced. I was a big Cash fan back around 1966 to around 1973.

A bunch of motorhheads should like 'Crash'. The sex in the Lincoln Continental convertible in the carwash was a high point. But overall, the seduction of the machine plays out pretty well. It was also filmed in my old haunts in Toronto, so I'm biased.

Didn't Cronenberg do Videodrome also? (Scanners too)

Jacobs Ladder has so much going on in so many levels, I still catch stuff sometimes, after watching it like 50 times over the years. Most of my friends didn't like it until they got to watch it a few times, completely over their heads.

Other then that, I like westerns alot, historical stuff... just seen National Treasure tonight for the first time, and taped it since it too has a bunch of stuff going on a few different levels as well. I like movies like that that make me think a little.

Schindler's List is a favourite as well as most submarine movies, WWI, WWII, Colonial War, Cival War, ect... movies, but I like the Cold War stuff the best.

Oh and stuff about mountain men/trappers, ect... although most are pretty lame with the moviemakers idea of what a mountainman/trapper was.

BTW, how many 'modern' movies have you seen without at least ONE W123 in it somewhere?

If you've never gotten into Kurosawa films, they be good.

Some are a bit slow though. Here are my favorites. I've seen at least 20, maybe more:

Red Beard
Rashomon
Seven Samurai
Stray Dog
Drunken Angel
Ikiru
Hidden Fortress (the first 3 Star Wars -- episodes 4,5,6 -- borrowed heavily from this one.)
Yojimbo
Dersu Uzala

Not as compelling but not w/o value (also Kurosawa):

Kagemusha
Ran
Dreams
Dodes-kaden

Also, repeta me por favor -- must see films:

Jean de Florette
Manon of the Spring
These be parts one and two of a longish but unforgettable story. By far the best French film ever IMHO.

Have you seen 'Deadwood', the HBO series?
I rented it from blockbuster.com and it was better than any of the movies that I rented.

Yes, I've seen parts of it when it was on HBO (hotel room while working out of town). I thought it could have been a good series if they didn't go out of their way to be profane and vulgar. I realise it's not Hopalong or Gene, but still...

Only seen parts of like 3 episodes though, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, Rawride, The Virginian, ect..., it's not.

Kind of a broad subject.

Some movies I like are:
Pan's Labrynth
Usual Suspects
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Resevoir Dogs
The Harder They Come
City of God
Shallow Grave
King of New York
A Fish Called Wanda
and ditto the Kurosawa films
