I have a friend though who carrys a small automatic in his back pocket. I think its a 25 cal. My dad always used to say if you carry for protection you need at least 38 cal to be sure to put the bad guy down.

...Smaller than that might just piss off a large, strong man.

But I wouldn't want to be shot by a little gun like that...especially by myself.

Small caliber, when in close range and shot into soft tissue, will bounce around inside the human body off of the bones, and make your innards look like swiss cheese.

My ex-wife's uncle, a great man and former cop (rest his soul) was called out one Thanksgiving morning to a domestic dispute with shots fired. He arrived on the scene to see a very large man leaning against the front of his truck, holding his head and bleeding, screaming that his wife shot him.

Upon checking the guy out, it was determined that the .25 caliber round, which was fired at his head, had entered the skin, went around the skull and exited behind the guys ear...no bone damage at all.

Had that round gotten past the bone, it would have ruined the guy life instead of his day.

Personally, I carry a FEG PA-63 which shoots a 9mm Makarov...it's basically a reworked Walther .380. Since most shootings happen in close range, and the .380/9mm Mak will fall off rapidly, and the fact that the handgun is highly concealable, it's what I chose to protect myself with. However...in the console of the Tahoe you'll usually find a 1911 in it's specially built holster.

.25 is a notoriously useless caliber round.

Not only do we have to worry about the genuine lunatics, but also the incompetent fool with a concealed carry permit dropping his weapon.

A standard .22lr round will fragment in the body and bounce off of solid matter, like bone, and cut through muscle and tissue like lungs and heart.

It's not the first round I'd think of for stopping power, but it's one that comes to mind that can be considered deadly.

Your Dad told you right! It's amazing how many people arm themselves with .22's and .25's and think that they have adequate protection.

Any business is free to set up metal detectors. It is SUPPOSED to be a free market. THAT means that if customers don't like it, they don't have to come back.

Who knows, in todays libby/commy world, folks might flock to a business with a metal detector thinking that they are safer. Of course they wouldn't be taking into account that someone who is normally there and capable of taking down someone if necessary to possibly save lives, would be the one unarmed. The bad guys will find a way to do harm, if that is what they're bent on doing. They can plant a gun at the back door or who knows what kind of scheme a criminal or sick mind might come up with?
