21 years or 99 and a half days for each life.
''Norwegian terrorist Anders Behring Breivik was sentenced to a maximum jail term of 21 years on Friday. The court found Breivik, who killed 77 people last year, legally sane. ''
That amounts to 99.5 days per life. I visit a prison here as a volunteer visitor and people are serving longer for armed robbery with no deaths. .

I hope that some of the parents of the victims live long enough to be waiting for him when he is released.

I'm not an expert on the Norwegian legal system, but from what I've read, the government has the discretion to keep him imprisoned beyond the sentence under a finding that he still poses a threat to society.

In contrast to the American system: sentence him to death, spend several $MM on appeals over 30 years, then have him die of old age in jail.

If I understand their legal system correctly after 21 years he is eligible for release if he is deemed to be fit to live in society. If the gov decides he is not they can lock him up for as long as they like, life if they want. I suspect they are just going to stick him in a little jail cell until he dies, which IMHO is worse than death. Now he will have years to go crazy in confinement. I have to give them credit in one area, they are much faster than we would have been in pushing his trial and sentencing threw.

America probably has the harshest criminal justice systems in the western world, and it still doesn't work.

GO crazy? I'm pretty sure he's already there. While keeping him locked up for life takes care of keeping him from hurting anyone else (besides his guards), a bullet in the head would be more satisfying.

21 years seems to be an insult to the families of the victims to me, he should be locked up for good. Looks similar to Dutch law where they can't keep you locked up forever but:
"offenders with severe personality disorders and those with a history of violent or sex offences can be detained in special forensic psychiatric institutions (‘TBS hospitals’) after having served their prison sentence" Didn't know prisoners had their own newspaper, but here you go.
