R.I.P. David S. Poole
I read on alabbasi's weekend wrenching thread that David S. Poole just passed away.
I wanted to start a new thread so forum members could post condolences, thoughts, or any memories of him. I looked at his profile, and he was only 64 years old. Man, that's just too young to die. I know he gave generously of his time in posting advice to forum members on fixing their cars. I see that he owned his own shop: David S Poole European Performance Dallas, TX 4696880422 He will be missed. R.I.P. David Poole.

David was a great guy an an encyclopedia of knowledge when it came to our cars. When I bought my first W108 and first US project MB, I knew very little about cars and was having a heck of a time finding an honest, decent mechanic to work on it.
I used the forums to post questions and air my frustrations. Tom Hansen, who now works at the Classic Center sent me a message and told me to get in touch with David Poole. I called David and was met with a powerful Aussie voice over the phone. I explained my problem and he told me bring it over. We hit it off and I took my 280SEL to him the following Saturday. He very quickly was able to diagnose the problem and finally progress was being made. Several years has gone by since and we became good friends. He would often help me by giving me advice and explaining things to me. As I got better at tinkering, I would help him with sourcing parts, the odd R12 jug and giving him a hand when he was short staffed. I attended his wedding and he was gracious enough to invite me for Thanksgiving and Christmas since 2007. I saw him on Thursday and we shot the breeze for about 15 minutes, he seemed to be in good health so this came as a surprise. I'm certainly going to miss him. For any of the local members who knew him and would like to pay their respects. The funeral will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday 29th August at the following location. Sandra Clark Funeral Home 6029 South R L Thornton Freeway Dallas, TX 75232 (214) 371-2600 Maps and Details on this link There will be a viewing on Tuesday 12 pm to 8 pm and the wake will from 6pm to 6:45pm on Tuesday. I'll certainly be there, with my Mercedes Benz.

This sucks.
Problem with hanging around a place long enough, is you stay long enough to have some people pass on. Really sucks. Well, maybe he can help TXBill get his 240D running.

This is really bad news.
There have been a number of pro MB techs on this forum over the almost 13 years that I've frequented the pages. Of those, some of them respond to questions and problems with the same fervor as if they were taking care of valued, paying customers. David was CERTAINLY in this category. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but he was always helpful and a total gentleman. He will be missed. RIP David

Sad to hear that. I only knew David from his posts here, but still feel saddened by his death.

Well, today was David's wake so I stopped by to pay my respects. It was good to see him one last time. While there, I saw a beautiful looking car called a Fisker Karma. It appears to be an electric hybrid 4 door super car. I guess interesting cars will follow him
Goodbye old friend.
