I observed a really huge star (planet?) yesterday morning in the eastern half of the sky shortly before the sun broke over the horizon.

I was musing at which one it might be and concluded venus was most likely.

anyone know for sure?

'Course not.
But I have this habit of wanting to view stories behind links.

I came out of the store last night and saw a big silver dollar in the sky. Wondered if it was the last full moon of summer & whether I should jump on the Harley and take a ride by the light of the moon or take a walk on the beach? Did neither. Maybe tonight, but the shore crazies will be out & about and the risk level on 2 wheels go up.

Ding a dong ding...

Trifecta---1) Weekend, 2) Holiday weekend, 3) Full Moon.\
Stay off the streets, and out of the Emergency Room.

I'm headed to Maine after work tonight for the weekend.

I should just check myself into the pysch ward now.

It's either Venus or Mercury. You never see Venus very high in night sky and sometimes you can only see it in the morning. Mercury is only visible very early in the morning before sunrise or just around sunset.
These two planets being closer to the sun than Earth, have a much smaller circle around the sun whis why you will see them closer to the sun.
Mars and Saturn being further away will cross the sky from east to west which can take months. I believe you can see Saturn right now in the western sky until about midnight.

A blue moon is when you have two full moons in one month.

Maine should be pretty safe--not a population dense state. probably want to stay off the coastal areas, US 1. I have friends who live by Portland Head. Wish I was visiting them now.

Once I'm there, yes. But the joys of driving the Mass Pike, NH Pike and ME Pike along with my oh-so-skilled-and-courteous Northeast brethren and sistren (along with their toll booth traffic) are another story.

Clearly premature on their part.

Don't worry guys and gals - all the loonies that weren't in Tampa, will be in Charlotte for the DNC convention during the blue moon.

Believe me, you couldn't pay me enough money to even try to drive thru Charlotte over the next week.

Just stay clear of NC and Charlotte in particular for the next week, and you'll be fine.
