Angry Stupid **** Schools Do

Asinine policy & adults without brains.....

And we trust these morons to educate our children? WTF????

"Nebraska school district asked a deaf preschooler to change his sign language name because they believe the hand motion he used looked like he was shooting a gun.

The family of 3-year-old Hunter Spanjer said that their deaf son’s sign gesture violates the Grand Island Public Schools weapons policy.

“He’s deaf, and his name sign, they say, is a violation of their weapons policy,” Brian Spanjer"

Maybe the Hawaiian Goodluck sign would work better?

I was really hoping for a Onion link but no such luck. That is sad. I have a hand sign for them as well but if they don't like the kids sign I know they won't like mine.

I hope the ACLU spanks the crap out of them.

He should hold up his right hand with the back of the pointer, middle and ring-fingers all together, facing the teachers and superintendant.

Then, with the other hand being free, he should sign "Read between the lines," let them read between the lines of his right hand and move on.

BTW: How much detention can a deaf 3-yo be forced to serve?

15 years...

This is absolutely crazy. The kid's name is Hunter. Hunters use guns...

They should have changed Hunter's name to some foreign dialect that directly translate to "Dumba55 Teachers & Administrators."

Regarding the "teachers and administrators" comments, it's real easy to lump them together into one single-minded group if you haven't been there. It seems to suit a particular anti public education mindset. As someone who has been both, nothing could be further from reality. That's like saying "dumba55 bank clerks and CEOs." "Dumba55 rank and file soldiers and Generals."
Dumba55 administrators I'll get on board with. I see no mention of teachers in any of the articles on this kid that come up in a search. It would be interesting to know the back story, how the whole thing came to light. Who first saw the kid sign his name and made an issue of it.

We may not always see eye to eye on things, but this is one where we share the same thought process...

You know, I would never have thought that the teachers aren't the first ones to see and interact with the students.

(Cue hazy screen and "mystic music" for backround effect...)

Now that you mention it, I remember (as if it was yesterday) my first day at school. If I remember correctly (or what I'm told by my "recovered memory advisor), about a block from the school, there was a line of children...about my age (5yo) and the head of the line there was a table...and at the head of the table, there was this gentleman with a neat suit on...and as I got closer and closer, I could see he was handing out these little, tiny "ketchup cups" that had a sugar-cube in it and before you could have the sugar-cube, you had to "sign" your name to him before you could even meet the person that was going to be your teacher for the coming school year... (fade back to reality...)

Come on...most kids never see anyone closely related to administrators unless you're including the school's secretary or principle. Outside of that, where would you start?

Teacher saw a 3yo make a "gun" sign and freaks out, goes to the principle's office and has a "bird" over something she's too wet behind the ears to understand...let alone apply some simple common sense.

The school-zone and related personnel are idiots and that's why voucher programs are looked at as being a simple way to let the PC-crowd know that idiocy isn't going to be parroted anymore.

And, if other parrots are offended by such remarks and observations...well then...they need to quit being parrots and quit worrying about what the other idiots will think about them and get back on the right side of the fence and tracks.

You'll only get more lazy and complacent about common sense ideals.

Besides, how many people on OD, here, actually own a parrot? (Really, the parrot owns you...I had a FIL that was living proof. Even he got smart and got rid of them... )

You're right! That IS some stupid stuff!

We most definitely have some total pinheads running our school systems. If they would put that much concern into discipline and order, they could make a difference for the better.

You'd be surprised then. He's a special needs kid. Chances are he saw a battery of people before meeting his teacher. My own experience starting school was similar to yours. Neither is relevant. Without more details, it's all speculation.

That school system is asking for an ACLU slap.

The city attorney must be canceling any vacation plans he had, he is going to get OT.

If its an official sign, I'm pretty sure its ADA protected.
