Thanks for all the kind words everyone.
It's been a tough weekend. Lots of crying. Our 9 year old twins seem to be taking it the best. They cried when they said their final goodbye to Peewee when I took her to the vet, and also later that night, but they are awfully resilient. My wife and I are taking it the worst. We had 16 great years with the dog. I just want everyone to know what an exceptional dog she was. She could have been a therapy dog at a hospital. She really understood people. She provided a level of peace and comfort to everyone that spent time with her. Whenever new people met the dog, that's all they wanted to talk about: her calm and peaceful temperament. There was just something in her presence that set her apart, and it was obvious to everyone that came into contact with her. I took Peewee to our local park almost every night with the twins, and Peewee was something of a minor celebrity. Over time, I became known not as the father of the twins, but as "Peewee's dad". |
