Berkshire Hathaway

I picked up a book about Warren Buffet over the weekend and am working my way through it. Pretty interesting stuff. He was a totally focused person, interested in numbers from early childhood and fascinated by the idea of making a lot of money from a very early age.

apparently too a nice fellow from the beginning, nice, unassuming and polite, but when it came to investing he was not modest about his ideas and would tell you about it without any false humility.

I am reminded of the focus a young Muhammad Ali had on boxing to the point that other kids his age thought him to be weird. Buffet too did not worry much about conventional ideas of how to dress and so forth.

On the topic of Mr. Buffet, I read that recently he (Mr. Buffet) dumped his holdings in Intel. He was reported to own almost 8% of Intel stock. That amounted to a reported $200M cash pull from Intel. While that’s not a lot of $ for Intel, their press department wrote it up as the slap in the face that it was.

While i admit projecting in this line of reason, i had to wonder if it was done because, Paul Otellini, the CEO of Intel is an ardent Republican while Mr. Buffet is an ardent supporter of O, or if Mr. Buffet sees the chip industry as nearing a fall out of some sort (which I kind of doubt).

Some articles speculated that Mr. Buffet found oil stocks to be a better long term investment than Intel. They are a comparative bargain, and yet.......

Not me. I don't brag about my stock or my "motor coach".

Not at least until Tom gets a motorhome. Or decides that the lumps in his mattress are getting too uncomforatable.

Well one consolation is whatever guys like Buffett accumulate they like ourselves take absolutly nothing with them. So it is just a temporary gathering of the marbles in reality.

It still is and always probably will be in poor taste to flaunt wealth. So is living far above your sensible means. Buffett deserves a lot of credit for acting sensibly as well in these regards as far as I have observed.

Another thing that has been very noticeable as well is the guy appears to be fundementally honest. This to me is almost a rariety at those financial levels. His venture into management on wall street was a real eye opener as well. Perhaps even a shock to himself.

SRJ was the guy who claimed to be really rich but wanted to leave just a $1 to each of his family members to prove that "they were not forgotten".

I believe he was serious. Can you imagine knowing him personally?

He also posted a pic of his "coach" but it looked like an airport parking shuttle bus. He was definitely a character.

Buffet gave about 6 Billion to the Bill and Linda Gates foundation a couple of years ago I believe it was.

Is that happening before or after you vote for M.R. ?

I guess if you can afford to buy anything you want, it will happen sooner rather than later.

When did he say he was really rich? Thats a new one on me!
He once showed some pics of his home, motor-home, mentioned a few B-H shares and his MB diesel he was selling.
That doesnt make him sound that rich!
Have I missed some of his posts?
I thought he mentioned his economically wasteful brothers as good candidates for not leaving any more than $1.00 to so that it would not be squandered. Maybe he planned to place $$$ in some sort of trust so that nieces & nephews could get a better education & stuff like that.
