War in Yemen

28 dead in 8 days from U.S. drone attacks, almost half of them civilians. In case I missed it (really) has any interviewer questioned Romney as to his opinion on this or what he'd do with this program?

I find myself genuinely ambivalent here, puzzled about the whole deal.

You can't replace the instincts of boots on the ground...

Boots on the ground vs. drones...that's not what I'm perplexed about. I don't know enough about strategy to take a position in that regard.
Perhaps this is too hard for Romney, as it's apparently too hard for the rest of us. I can't find any opinions directly on this from him, other than the usual "support and strengthen the military" blah blah.

What does Yemen have that we can't do without?? Can we get it elsewhere without bloodshed??

If so, Yemen can burn for all I care.

Honestly, haven't heard a thing about it in the media - this thread was the first mention I'd heard of this level and type of activity.

Yemen has live AL-Qaeda fighters. We want them dead. The global war on terrorism continues.
Remember the cold war. We hunted communists then. Whenever they were in a country that was not all the way communist, we were there.
It was more discreet then. We didn't have drones.
Now we hunt Al-Qaeda. Apparently they are in Yemen.

Sure they do. I can't wait 'til they start hunting "Al Qaeda" here at home.

And apparently it has been a successful hunt.

If I am not mistaken, don't have time to look it up right now, one of the islamists killed a while back in Yemen was an American citizen. Basically just a kid, who had been radicalized and recruited and moved there. As I recall he wasn't a key target but was collateral.
Not sure if I'm real sympathetic to the outcry about his death.....

This is what I was going to say (without the sources quoted though.)
