Chicago Teachers Strike Catch 22

This should be interesting to see how far Barry can distance himself from Rahm in his time of need.

They don't want to bite ........well, you know the saying.

One of the interesting things about this is that the kids will STILL go to school so that they can get their free meals. That kind of let's you know what the schools see as top priority, free meals.

Why is that so interesting?

The plan is to keep half the schools open for half a day. Transport and feed the kids 2 meals, and monitor them for safety.
The city set aside 25 million as a contingency.

How long will that money last?

How long will the money last? To me, the more important question is; WHY are the parents not taking care of their kids themselves instead of relying on these Bozo's?

I'd bet it's interesting because schools priorities used to be teaching- and this shows that priority has slipped. Why is free lunches when schools are not being taught a priority at all? Are schools part of the welfare system? That's what this is telling us.

Hmm, kids are in Chicago public schools. That probably means the parents work low-level blue-collar jobs out in the suburbs and probably can't afford to take a day off, or they have to give weeks of notice before taking off. With unemployment as high as it is, employers don't have to be nice, or forgiving. They can fire and hire at will.

IDK how long the money will last but the second part of your statement mostly fails. Not as much as others have derided- the parents did take care of the their kids all summer- or at least made plans to have them watched.

The Chicago Publik Skools are among the worst performing in the nation.

With the teachers on strike, there is a chance that the students might actually get smarter......

Exactly.

And in some states, it is ILLEGAL to leave even teenage kids below a certain age "home alone". My last years in the Navy, out in WA state, I saw a few instances where the state intervened - took the kids and placed them in a foster home, dragged the parents thru the courts and ruined their lives - because Mom went to the corner store a block away for 15 minutes - and a nosy neighbor just happened to pay a visit, found out the kids (already in high school) were there by themselves, and turned in the parents to social services.

More union trouble coming for Barry.
On Sept. 30th the ILA will be going on strike if their contract is not settled. That will shut down the east coast and maybe the gulf ports.
Taft-Hartley injunction maybe?

It looks like big labor is calling in that favor that Barry and the libs owe them.
