I buy 130 volt long life bulbs on the internet. For example : 100A19/IF/130V/4M A19 INSIDE FROST E26 BASE, 100A19IF, 100A19/IF, 100 WATT A19 INSIDE FROST MEDIUM BASE 130 VOLT

I have yet to have one of these fail. I consider that a big plus, as we have several sockets where the bulbs are difficult to reach.

CFLs suck.......

Might be the brand of bulb, old wiring/loose connections, local power company varying the voltage, etc - just some possible factors off the top of my head.

I switched my parent's house over to CFL's 15 years ago, and for the most part have had good luck with them - the one yellow porch light hasn't been changed in over 10 years - but in some instances they died an early death.

The people that helped my father build the house used rather cheap outlets in some rooms - to the point that you had to actually bend the prongs of the plug on whatever appliance you were using, to even get the plug to stay in the outlet. Poor electrical contact to say the least. The lamps with CFL's that were plugged into these outlets, were the ones that died early.

Once I replaced these outlets with some of higher quality, that problem went away.

Perhaps a lowering or relaxing of the CAFE standards would allow a lowering of the price of a new car--and maybe allow people who drive 10-20 year old gas guzzling clunkers to afford something more efficient. Reduce the amount of by-products released into the atmosphere, too.
Maybe not--but may so.

As for leaded gas--glad its gone. It wasn't quite the death of older gas engines that some said it would be. Lead is bad.

I bought a gaggle of CFLs and only 3 survived out of 12 in the last 5 years.

Forced technology will always fall short. The volt comes to mind.

Are any incandecent or CFL (spirals) made in the US, or rather, not from our trading partners in China?

Lights of America assembles theirs here in the states, with components made overseas...all other manufacturers made them overseas.

The last incandescent manufacturer, Sylvania I believe, shut down their plant last year.

I changed my whole place over to CFLs...saw a better-than $40.00 drop in the electric bill the first month I was at/near 99.999% (refrigerator and oven bulb are still incadescent).

The front door lamps (26Watt/100Watt equivelant) are on an 8P-4A timer and have both been working for over 3 years @ 8 hr/day, 7 days/week...(I date each CFL, with a Sharpie, when they 1st go into service), I have a pair of 23 watt CFL spirals in can-fixtures pointing into the shower/tub area, 4 - 13watt/60Watt equive CFL-spirals in the fixture above the bathroom sink, single 13watt/60watt equives spirals, in the 2 bedrooms, a three-way CFL spiral in the living room, a 23watt/100watt equive circular by the front-door closet, a 23watt/100watt equive over the kitchen sink, 3 - 16watt/100watt equives in the kitchen/dining room lamp/fan unit and in the basement, there are 4 - 26watt/100watt equive circulars...and the garage has a massive 45watt/200watt equive spiral in it.

And they all (even the ones outdoor) light up and within 1-2 minutes, full lightage...no problems with "yellow" or sub-white light.

And the best part?

I got the 23watt units about 5 years ago...they're GE-brand, and I picked 'em up at a grocery store in Eau Claire for a buck a piece. I bought four cases with 8 bulbs per case. :thumbsup:

I stocked up on CFLs a couple of years ago when Home Depot had cheap 4-packs for $2 each, I've had 2 bulbs go bad (and 1 cracked one out of the box) out of probably 12 or 16 bulbs in 3 years. Not that terrible at $0.50 each and 1/4 of the wattage of the bulbs they replaced.

They passed some type repeal in the house but I don't think it went past Harry.

Home Despot, Lowe's, Ikea, all recycle bulbs.
