Porsche GT3 or MB CLK63 Black Series....

Thoughts? Opinions? Facts?

Discuss.

Do you have a lot of driving experience in rear-engined Porsches? The CLK would probably be more familiar to you from a handling dynamics perspective.

I would also be curious about the relative insurability of each vehicle. The CLK won't be pretty, but the GT3 might give your insurance company a case of the vapors.

I'd go with the CLK. Porsche can put all of the traction control and stability control available in the GT3 but it will still want to go ass end first around a corner.

A GT3 would be nice on the track but if you like to keep your fillings in you mouth during your daily commute go with the CLK.

What are you going to use it for - track or road?

Funny, but I've actually had this train of thought. I've often thought of selling my 1969 911S and my daily driving 128i Sport and getting a modern 911 daily driver. In my neighborhood, new 911s are as common as Suburbans so I thought a Black Series would be cool because no one has one. But the 911 would be more reliable and the suspension should be more compliant. I'd get the 911 as a daily driver, but would consider the Black as a "toy".

911 as a daily driver fine, GT3 not so much.

Go to Frankfurt, rent a Ferrari and hit the Autobahn

Blow the "urge" to speed out of your system.

Run on the'bahn to 190+ mph safely, and legally.

Rinse and repeat as necessary.

The U.S. roads are awful. The drivers are worse and the cops will go after you if they catch you going over 85 mph. You speed at dire risk to your driving privilege

And the US drivers are utter morons, tailgating, no signaling when changing lanes, left lane bandits, eating drinking and yakking and texting on hand held mobile phones when they drive.

All you can do in the USA is drive to stay alive. it is not fun.

Don't waste your money on an exotic car hoping to have fun on American highways and streets.

....

Would you buy a race horse and take in the forest to hunt possums instead of taking it to run in the Kentucky Derby, Justin?

.... sent from Bakersfield Calif. 9/11/12. "If you won't stand behind our troops, why not stand in front of them?"

Drive both. Buy what you like and can afford. I've driven quite a few 911's, but never a GT3. I was always pleased with the driving experience they offer. I find myself more attracted to the "classic" 911.

GT3 would seem to me to be the most impractical car to drive on a daily basis.

This is from Wikipedia:

Sound deadening was almost completely removed, as were the rear seats, rear loud speakers, sunroof, and air conditioning, although automatic air conditioning and CD/radio became no-cost optional add-ons. In addition, Porsche offered a no-cost option called the Clubsport package. This option replaced the standard electrically adjustable leather front seats with manually adjustable racing buckets finished in fire-retardant fabric, bolt-in half-roll cage, 6-point drivers racing harness (also replacing the standard side airbags), fire extinguisher (mounted in the front passenger footwell) and preparation for a battery master switch. The Clubsport option was never offered to US customers ostensibly due to the additional DOT crash testing that would have been required to allow US sales. Between 1999 and 2001 a total of 1,868 cars were built.

Driven a few of both... They are both horrible in the ride quality department.

As for comfort, the MB has slightly better seats, but the Porsche has a better driving position.... :/

I am not planning to have fun on American roads, but have fun on the track. I want something that will turn heads where ever I go. My E55 did that - but I am bored with that car, and have moved on from it.

Both the GT3 and CLK BS would be fun on the track, and turn heads on the streets.

Yep. Look at my ML430 and E55. The ML430 started out as a soccer mom mobile, never really intended to leave the urban jungle. Put a lift on it, some mud tires, and some additional clearance mods, and now it does well offroad.

My E55, well that was never really meant to be a track car, but I still took it out there! Caused one helluva stir when I was eating the Ferraris and Porkys going down the straight, then kicked it sideways by accident in the turns!

My Dad's friend in Chicago has a CLK-63 black series (He and my brother both bought AMG'S from the same salesman in Chi-town). He really likes it and drives it all summer.

What's the point of a compromised track car and compromised street car? Testosterone supplement?
