I once saw a Triumph Spitfire with a big block Ford FE engine. Needless to say, it didn't have a hood.

I doubt that it could beat a stock Miata in Autocross unless there were certain courses to run with longish straight sections.

Yeah, if it had a hood, they would probably have had to use the top ball turret from a B17.

I agree, it would have to have SEVERAL, LONG straights in the course for it to have a chance. Tom, you'll get a kick out of this: I used to work with an Englishman that was a fellow car crazy. He told me one time about some sort of demonstration race that they did on a racing day at some track in England. He said the race was two cars, a souped up Jag and a Mini Cooper. The way he described it, from the starting line, as you would expect, the Jag ran away from the Mini. Then the first turn or two the Mini was caught up to the Jag and passed it before coming upon another straight where the Jag blew by the Mini again. The way he described it, they did quite a few laps and came across the finish line on the last lap very close to each other. I'll bet it would have been fun to watch.
