Lake Michigan down 3 to 4'

We went up to the lake today and found the sandy beach a lot wider than I had remembered. There were a number of houses on the east shore that were undermined by higher water levels about 15 years ago and fell into the lake. the ones next to them which appeared to be next are now maybe 300' from the water.

By looking at the nearly ineffectual boat launch at Michigan City it appears to be 3 to 4' low.

Dry summer, i guess.

Lake Ontario is down about 2' also. Some sailboats in our marina are having a hard time reaching the Travel Lift for haul out due to the low water.

No glacier that I am aware of will melt into the great lakes.

It would be interesting if we had Lake Michigan lake level data for something more than a few hundred years. It would be interesting to have enough to data to understand what has gone on with it over its history.

I thought so.

The level of the lake has varied a lot over known history.

If not, it would be a major exhibit for the MMGW crowd. It is a complex issue.

Many lakes farther south are down 60 ft. or more.

Interesting article. That author clearly places the blame on the corps of Engineers dredging of Lake St. Clair.

I suspect vertical in some cases.

Saw a satellite shot of one on the news a month or so ago. About a 1/3 of the lake was gone.

Lake Buchanan - upper end of Texas Highland lake chain.

That doesn't account for the lower level of Lake Ontario.
