I saw one of those just recently on the street, but it was the later square headlight version, an 80s replica I think. Striking looking cars, I much prefer the original studebaker version.

Too bad 36k is out of my budget.

The wheels look stupid, IMO. Chevy engine?

Too bad they messed with the originality of a nice clean car.

Agree, the wheels look awful. They scream poor 1980s taste.

This one is no longer original...no thanks.

A buddy of mine has an all original with about 45k miles. Only non original thing is the wheels. Same year, 1963

A private company bought the tooling and rights to manufacture the Avanti from Studebaker back in the mid 60's. They were built into the early 90's.

It appears that the original Stude 289 is part of the sales package. The Chevy small block was probably a very easy swap, as the Avanti II used small block Chevy engines.

When I was looking at pics of the factory some composite materials rep brought thru--I understood that it was what was left of the studibaker co. --not some private outfit.

Avanti car looks awesome although pretty much unusual to me even when I know it's vintage
I'd love to buy this one, but I got no money.

It was a couple of former Studebaker dealership owners who bought all the rights. Still a private and different company.

there used to be one in my small town,my dad had a rental property right next to the guys house.it sat in a crappy one car garage that the door wouldn't even close.i always loved looking at that weird car.then one day it disappeared.about 6 months later i see the biggest piece of crap in town,a total phony driving it.one thing about car collectors that just pissed my dad off to no end was the phony that was all show but knew nothing about how a screwdriver operates.don't think the guys hands had ever seen dirt.
