fairfield county, southern ct, looking for lawn guy reccomendations
Have a house down there in the Stamford area. For the last year, ive been getting spanked by an expensive lawn guy, whose saving grace is reliability and he already was doing lawn work on the house for the last 15 years when I inherited it from a relative and took over its management. I restored the whole place doing most of the work and acting as general contractor for the most part when I couldn't, and while that was happening, I just left this guy to his devices and paid his bill every month.
its an acre property and the guy comes and mows the lawn and picks up sticks, pretty much. In the winter, he plows when it snows. Each plow costs me 100 bucks, and monthly lawn service costs like 450 bucks, and lately hes been whacking me for "storm cleanup" and another 150 bucks. For the amount of money im paying this guy, im considering buying a lawn tractor, a trailer to pull it in, and doing it myself and making the drive down all the time to do it. (150 miles away) In the winter, ill make it the tenants responsibility to handle snow removal. It can be done with a shovel, which I have provided already Can anyone in that area recommend a lawn service down there thats reasonable?

We don't do much business in Fairfield County and the contractors we do deal with are definitely on the expensive side. $450/mo. for an acre isn't too bad. We pay $75/week for 1/2+ acre of turf and $40/mow & blow for a 1/4 acre (at least for a legit, insured one) is pretty much the going rate in central CT and things are a helluva lot more expensive down there. The snow removal is on the steep side, though (unless it's a corner lot), and storm cleanup really depends on the extent but seems to be on the high side.
If the guy has been reliable I'd let him know you're shopping around. In the current climate most guys will do whatever they have to to keep a customer.

Those prices don't really sound out of line with what they get in Fairfield county.
I'm guessing its north Stamford so its a $$$$$ area.

yeah, the area is North Stamford, so certainly $$$$$$$.
I guess im not really surprised to hear this, I was hoping for some statement to the contrary though. It just drives me nuts that im paying this guy an average of more than my own rent in RI monthly to maintain a lawn for me. Unfortunately, the neighborhood has no exploitable kids and parents that I can pay to mow.
