I'm asking a person favor

October 22, 2012 will be my aunt Hazel's 100th birthday.

She was a kindergarten teacher for more than 40 years in upstate NY, then held various jobs and positions in charitable organizations.

Up until two years ago she was very active. In fact she was running volunteer services for a senior citizens facility. Then she broke her hip and had to go live with my cousin.

She is still very sharp mentally, but limited physically.

I would like to ask as a personal favor for anyone who can, please send her a birthday card. Just say "Happy Birthday Aunt Hazel" and sign your name. It will give her hours of entertainment trying to figure out who you are. I would like to flood her with birthday cards.

The address is:

Hazel Bennett
c/o Sue Personius
4002 State Place
Fredricksburg, VA 22408

Thank you if you can do this for me.

Say,

I had a great aunt live to 102. On her 100th, my sister, with whom Irma lived on LI, got the local US Congressman to get some sort of officlal recognition shoved into the Congressional Record and iirc she also received a commemorative declaration from the US Congress.Pols live for this stuff. It's their job. And it's election season.;)

"Call your Congressman" :D Hazel might get a kick out of that.;)

I'm going to pick up a card. You want them tender, funny, or ???

Would it be more "entertaining" to mention that one remembers her as a wonderful teacher, learned a lot or something to that effect?

You got it! I've got to head to the store tomorrow for a few things I missed on my grocery run yesterday and will throw one in.

Funny? Serious? Religious?

alamostation 10-08-2012 08:36 PM

Thank you to every one who is sending cards. To answer questions:

I'm sure she would prefer funny.

She taught in Horseheads.

I would prefer her to think it came from a relative. There are 24 of us nephews and neices, about 75 grand-nieces and grand-nephews and maybe 50 to 100 great-nephews and great-nieces who could legitimately call her "Aunt Hazel."

If we can throw a ringers in there, it will get her calling everyone trying to figure out who you are.

The congressional idea is great. I'll look into that, but Congress is recess. Maybe I can get my local Congressman to send a card.

Another forum I belong to is trying to get a member from each state to send a card. They are only part of the way there, but they did get three other countries.

Can we ask her out?

'I was a student of yours' might be a good intro.

I'm sending one, but I'm not a fan of trying to fool someone so special. I'm just going to tell her I'm a friend of one of her nephews that is very proud of her and was thoughtful enough to ask his friends to recognize her amazing birthday.

And I'm going to print it in large letters. I'm only a little more than half her age and even I appreciate larger fonts.

I will get one out also. It will be from the southern contingent of Greazzers !

Ha ha :D

I will sent a card tomorrow. Maybe I can convince some relatives with the same last name to sent her a card from Holland, that would make her head spin.

Delibes 10-10-2012 11:25 PM

I will see what I can do from here in Oaxaca... finding decent stationery has become quite a challenge!
