Tesla S beats M5

Jalopnik. It must be exciting to accelerate like that in silence; going fast must be a complete different experience.

I really, really, like the Model S. Its a nice slice of the future, and not bad looking really.

I'd consider one, but only after it seasons for a few years on the market. Don't want to end up with something like a Fisker Karma...

Plus luxury cars are a dime a dozen, but no one has a Model S yet...

Half a year ago you would see Fisker Karma's all over LA; now they completely disappeared. Bad ass looking car tho.

The dash on the Model S would take some getting used to. Maybe it looks better in person?

The Tesla with the 300 mile battery pack would be pretty close or win. M5's burn fuel.

Perhaps the tesla would edge out the Bimmer now. But what happens later on down the road, when the batteries have some years and mileage on them? Will they GO 200K miles. Will they last at least 20 years?? Just how long will it take before that originally phenomenal performance begins to deteriorate?? And, by how much?

The couter point is that you can put in a new battery pack and be right back to the original performance or at least very close to it. The electric motor itself should last much longer than the internal combustion engine.

Everytime I fill up my gas tank and read the cancer warnings I wonder what the long term health benefits of having a electric car would be. It would also be nice to not have the mess related to oil and oil changes. I am not suggesting that disposing of the batteries is easy on the environment, but as a user you would be exposed to fewer chemicals and my garage floor would have fewer oil stains.

I like the concept of electric cars. As with most things there are advantages and disadvantages.
