Isn't that a 220SE fintail sedan, around a 61-64?

That's my educated guess.

Not exactly.....

The 220SE is actually part of the W111 series cars including the 220 b Sedan (1960-1965); the 230 S (1966-1968); 230 Sb (1960-1965); and 230 SEb (1960-1965).

The car in the photo appears to be from the W110 series cars including the 190 c (1961-1966); 200 (1966-1968); 230 (1966-1968).......and the diesles..... 190 Dc (1961-1966) and the 200 D (1966-1968).

Hope this helps!

I believe it is a 200. I have a big book with lots of pictures of every Mercedes produced. There is a double spread featuring this car. It is from the 220b - 300SE series, production beginning in 1959. The 200 has these round lights rather than stacked lights under plexiglass covers.

The book's only comment is: "The body and running gear of the type 200 corresponded to that of the 220S. however, the hood was shorter, the fenders more simples, and the headlights were round."

jjrodger,

I agree........in part.....but I think the book is describing three different chassis.....W110, W111, W112.

The type 200 is a different chassis designation (W110) than that of the type 220 b (W111)

I found no reference to a "type 220 S" (W111), but did find a 230 S (W111).

I did find several references to type 220 S, but these are totally different body styles..(W180, or ponton style with, yes, single headlights....MY 1956-1959 in sedan, coupe and cabriolet). Also, 220 S (W116) and 220 (no S) in the W115 chassis.

The type 300SE is yet another chassis designation (W112).

Both the W111 and W112 had stacked headlights on the sedans, coupes and convertibles. The W110 does not.

While production may have started in 1959, the model years begin in 1960, with the W111 series. The first MY for the W110 was 1961 with the 190 c (gas sedan) and 190 Dc (diesel sedan).

My information comes from the "Mercedes-Benz Classic Car Chassis/Model Identifier" records.

Hope this helps.

Definitely a 110 chassis. Probably either a 200D or a 200 gasser. Not a 220 (headlights are different). Not a 190 (doesn't have the high mounted side marker lights).

I vote for the 200 / 200D:

Cool site!

Does anyone know what one of these in good shape is worth nowadays? It would be cool to drive around in a 220se or even one of these.

Yeah, definitely a W110 4 cyl, either a 200 or 230, or a 200D or 190Dc

I agree about it not being a 190Dc.....

I got to examine a 190 Dc at a councours in South Carliona in the Fall of 2000....great car....now I remember the high mounted side marker lights. The owner had nicknamed the car "pokey"!!

Jsmith - great site!

Sadly just the cars, although it does feature the G-Wagen. I've looked into these Unimog vehicles and they seem to be brilliant. Wouldn't mind one for squashing BMW X5s!
