Been to a Bar Lately?

**** Bartenders Say - YouTube

So far, I've only heard about half of these in real bars . . . must not be drinking enough.

These clowns think they're chefs or sommeliers.
Recently in one of Sedona's toniest restaurants, their resident "mixologist", who didn't have a single solitary bottle of rye on his bar, REFUSED to make me a rocks manhattan. The server came to our table and sheepishly said "our manhattans are served up, in martini glasses". I hate martini glasses and I like my manhattans in a rocks glass, with rocks and a twist.
A quick conversation with the FOH manager convinced him that if his "mixologist" didn't have the skill to make a simple, classic drink served on ice at a paying customer's request, perhaps he'd hired the wrong guy. I was tending bar before the little puke was born. I got my drink, for twelve dollars. No wonder the wife doesn't take me out much.....

Not a tea fan besides good strong iced tea with lots of lemon, but that was funny.

So sad. Corn likker just isn't the same unless it's some really high end single barrel Bourbon. What does a Manhattan in Manhattan set you back anyhow?

Depending on where you go, it's anywhere between $12 and $15.

If you have two drinks, it sets you back about $50.

This would be acceptable to me if the drink was actually worth the money expended. These DB's have figured out how to pour 1.5 ounces of liquour, and shake it with the same amount of water after the ice melts. The drink costs them a whopping $1.50 and they charge $12.00 for it.

My days of drinking that garbage are over. We drink at home and make some exemplary drinks, devoid of excessive ice and water, that would be appreciated by almost anyone.

I spend a lot of time in bars, but I never hear any of those phrases from the video. If I did, I'd find another bar real quick.

Solution:

Scotch, neat

Vodka martini up, and neat.

Complain if they substitute the good stuff in the good bottle for well crap.

JWB was the go to drink for years in the winter. I recall the days when the DB's would bring some cheaper scotch banking on the fact that no customer would know. Well, I would know and they simply denied it. In fact, they showed me the bottle. The POS would actually fill the JWB bottle with Dewars or JWR and they'd get away with it.

Another reason not to give them their $12,

The "rummy pumpkin" is a better drink. The vodka is a bit harsh for that drink.

The most recent concoction..........the pear cosmo.........is so excellent that it's irresistible. Had another three of them tonight.

If I go to a bar, they have a bartender, not a mixologist.

Of course, I have heard some pretty off the wall stuff from sommeliers too... my favorite was having a wine described as 'barnyardy'.... and that was a good thing...

Oh yeah, SOP in many bars, the trick is to get them to crack a bottle.

I like new bar tenders. One time I ordered a Glenmorangie neat and this new girl poured me an entire snifter of it! Now that was a drink worth $15.
