2013 Audi S8 First Test

Too rich for my blood . I will have to wait for 10 yrs for depreciation to do its thing.

This all-wheel drive luxo-cruiser weighs a stout 4619 pounds and packs a 520-horsepower, 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with 481 lb-ft of torque. Hah! Your Chevord Mustaro GZ-51 makes more power than that! Well, you'd better get that launch right, or you'll be explaining to your passengers why you just lost to a sedan. See, this new Audi S8 hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 118.3 mph.

I saw one of these over the weekend at my local friendly Audi dealer. What a package! Maybe a little Chris Bangle in the styling, but it does have presence.

Yeah I really can't warm up to the LEDs or Carbon Fiber interior.

Very cool car, pretty light to has about 500 pounds less than an S class to lug around.

Fast but not S65 AMG fast, and it doesn't have a V12...

The S8 beats the S65 with almost a second. Those S8 numbers are insane, it should have be named RS8!

0-60 yes, but I don't think it would keep the lead up over 100.

All wheel drive is great off the line, but with such a big HP advantage I suspect around 100 the big V12 would pass it and stay their. Once its able to hook up...

Now an 800hp SV12S...would eat it for lunch...

Unless Audi is pulling a typical German move and sandbagging what that V8 is actually putting down...Sometimes Germans like to be "conservative" in their engine ratings for whatever reasons...it might be more like 520hp at the wheels...

Living with a new Audi A6 on the Autobahn. JUNE/JULY 2012

I got this A6 rental for a couple weeks this summer when Avis at Frankfurt airport gave away my Mercedes e-class I'd already even paid for.
This, I was told, was the equivalent substitute of the e220 TURBODIESEL Mercedes Benz in that class. (Premium). I wanted the biggest car I could get.
Diesel's cheaper than gas ("benzin") @ $8.00 a gallon.

It was a 2.0 turbodiesel Audi A6 ....the rated economy 39/44 mpg stated - was impressive though.

The start/stop feature was unnerving at first but was unobtrusive and you get used to it, and the diesel engine was pretty quick. The MMI feature was not user friendly, though... but better than the Mercedes "COMAND" one. (for which I'd gotten a tutorial from the local MB dealer on COMAND the day before I left for Germany.

Against the strong objections of the tour guide who neve even showed up for the trip - I got the biggest car i could rent - for the Autobahn.

The cars for the "Deutsche Schnellstrasse" were almost exclusively Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi, with a strong showing by the Porsche.

I felt these cars were MADE for the Autobahn. I ran that Audi over 3,000 kms on that trip, France's wine country, frankfurt to Munich, Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, through the Mont Blanc tunnel, into Italy, and disovered that someone before me..drove, just HAD to, to a little town in Austria called..

Checking how fast I drove when I got back home and checked the kph/mph dual speedometer on my 560SEC, (new German cars in Gemany are only marked in kph),

I discovered that I had driven between 130-160 mph EVERY DAY in the Audi.

It was safe, legal, cofortable and relaxing as taking a bath. Loved it. Can't wait to go back.

In fact a month later I laid down cash for this one year old 2011 e350 Mercedes. A early lease return from a man in Beverly Hills, the sport version with staggered factory AMG 18's, AMG sport suspension, and interior but the mild V6, and ..
Being a US version, though, it has the unfortunate 130 mph speed limiter.

It must be great to drive a car like that - but from the outside it looks like a MiB suit - very bland and forgettable

My friend has a 2009 S8 with the V10. Amazing what that car can do with all the electronics and all wheel drive. Really gives the driver a lot of confidence.

And the sound.....

A friend has one with straight pipes, and it makes some of the most glorious noises... Ever.

V10 is just a weird sounding engine. Plus, you don't hear much inside.
