A line from chapter 32 in Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" ;) HMS Battleaxe was already out there, three miles ahead, a subtly different shade on her hull, and the White Ensign fluttering at her mast. A signal light started blinking at them. WHAT THE DEVIL IS A REUBEN JAMES, Battleaxe wanted to know. "How do you want to answer that, sir?" a signalman asked. Morris laughed, the ominous spell broken. "Signal, 'At least we don't name warships for our mother-in-law.'" "All right!" The petty officer loved it. |

As quoted in the story:
"There's tough, then there is Enterprise tough" I like that! |
I think the Navy ought to give Enterprise one last mission. Weigh anchor, set course to the Narrows and drop anchor off Staten Island. They could house hundred, no thousands of people on that ship with only a skeleton crew on board. Close the hangar bay doors for recreation areas. We send aircraft carriers all over the world at the drop of a hat for those in distress. How about helping our own??
As for naming the CVN 21 lead ship, there is only one name that should be on her stern. USS America. ( I freely admit prejudice;)) http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...CV66WTCpic.jpg Hell, they sunk her to learn how to protect future carriers. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...caletter-1.jpg Name CVN78 USS America |
Nice letter. Well said.

Men Written by Martin Mull and Steve Martin (Group of men singing in the background) Men, men, men, men, Men, men, men, men... It's great to be on a ship with men And sail across the sea-o, We don't know where we'll land or when, But it's great to be with men. (It's great to be with men) 'Cause men can sweat and men can stink And no one seems to care-o, We'll throw the dishes in the sink And clog the drain with hair-o (And clog the drain with hair-o) Men, men, men, It's a ship all filled with men, So batten down the ladies' room, There's no one here but men! Men, men, men, men Men, men, men, men... There's men above and men below And men down in the galley, There's Butch and Spike and Buzz and Biff And one guy we call Sally! (and one guy we call Sally!) Men, men, men, It's a ship all filled with men, You'll never have to lift the seat, There's no one here but men! Men, men, men, men Men, men, men, men... We're men and friends until the end And none of us are sissies, At night we sleep in separate beds And blow each other kissies! (and blow each other kissies!) Men, men, men, It's a ship all filled with men, So throw your rubbers overboard, There's no one here but men! Amen (pronounced "Ahhhhh, men!") Martin Mull |
The Navy just needs to stop naming ships after lame politicians.
More so since the Navy has a ton of very significant names from history to pick from. How about the Wasp or Hornet for the new carriers? If Ford wanted his name on a Navy ship...well plenty of harbor tugs...:D |
Need a vessel that runs into things.
