"Maybe the dingo ate your baby..."

Sad, stupid and completely avoidable.

Zoo mauling: Boy killed by dogs, not fall, autopsy shows

Quote:
"What we understand from the medical examiner's report, the child did not die from the fall. The child was mauled by the dogs," said Barbara Baker, CEO and president of the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, WPIX-TV reported.

There was a safety net, but apparently the child bounced off it.

Yep, and had the child not been placed on the rim of the enclosure...

Officials say the child's mother had placed the boy on a wooden rail above the exhibit so he could get a better look at the animals. There is a net below the rail, but Baker says the boy bounced off it and into the enclosure.

As I said, sad, stupid and completely avoidable.

It's just unfathomable.

I can't picture any scenario where I wouldn't jump down and at the very least cover my kid with my body, probably to my own demise (not that I can even envision putting them in such a precarious position to begin with). I'd rather be dead than watch one of my kids go that way.

How dumb can the mother be putting her kid on the rail like that? She should be charged.

There's likely no punishment man could invent that would equal what she has inflicted on herself.

That is one of the virtues of our legal system. Prosecutors need to prove either intent or reckless disregard for criminal negligence. Even with a conviction, the punishment phase in state courts typically does not have mandatory minimums for this type of violation. So is a prosecutor going to crucify a grieving parent for probation?

To what end?

I can't imagine why or how she didn't go in there after him.

I guess you had your reason for using the word "dingo".
There is quite a bit of information about dingos & babies about if you go looking.

That's an old meme. Something about some woman some years ago that killed her child and said a dingo must've taken it. Seinfeld used it in an episode too.

Correction, according to this story the family did not kill the baby. http://www.examiner.com/article/the-dingo-ate-your-baby-seinfeld-line-reflects-original-doubt-on-story
