Wasteful spending or a needed health service?

Gender spenders: San Francisco to foot bill for sex changes | Fox News
I find this absolutely ridiculous and whoever thought this was a good idea needs to be replaced.

Considering that the city universities in SF are strapped for funding and about to lose accreditation, this is pretty nuckin futs.

One hopes it is a hoax (I'll do a search) but I could believe it was well, sad to say. Completely whacked. The grass is always greener with different genitalia or something.

That's just great, now people will go get cirrhosis for the fun of it.

That's why I said "nice place to visit." I live in NYC by choice after all

A few months back, I was thinking of moving to the West Coast. But after the hurricane, I've just been amazed at the amount of volunteerism, good will, and good people in the city and NJ. Some call New Yorkers cold and rude, but the majority really aren't, and this has been proven yet again. Glad to live in such a town.

This does sound like a Fox News tempest in a teapot, but as to the original question -

All social issues put aside, if this doesn't fall under the category of elective or cosmetic surgery, then WTF does?

Not me. Even though I am a second generation native.

I left "Baghdad-by-the-Bay" - and the house I'd owned there, for good back in November 2004. But I still come back every month a few times for the great food, film festivals and plays.

And I think Tom W. would concur that - after the tour I gave him in July, basically the city is really a great place to enjoy and explore if you know it well.

*THIS* over the top felating (so to speak) of the single issue powerful special interests makes me glad I am gone, and sick at heart, but nonetheless sorry to read this kind of stuff.

I'd think that only suicide eclipses THAT as the ultimate expression of self-criticism.
