De-badging
 

What's the deal with de-badging. I don't understand it. I guess if you had a lesser engine, and wanted people to think you had a bigger one, you'd do it, but this seems kind of "phony." But I gather some people do it just because the trunk looks "cleaner" without the badge. Could someone explain this to me? Thanks.

For me, its a design thing. If I were wearing a fine watch I certainly wouldn't want to take away from it by wearing a cheap ring. The star says enough.

The badges are kind of tacky, especially on models with more lengthy designations: SLK 32 AMG V6 Kompressor, C250TD Turbo Diesel &c.

Interestingly, cars featured in German sales brochures appear without badges; when translated into English for the UK market, the same pictures are used, with the badge badly cut-and-pasted in.

If I had an E55 or a C32 (AMG V6 Kompressor &c), not only would I take the nasty little badges off, I'd have the bodykit replaced with stock panels. That way nobody would know what the car was. De-badging has always been part of the Q-car or sleeper car tradition.

Actually,I'm thinking of debadging my car.Not for style,nor
decieved anybody.Its for these young MB owner of the newer
model,who always try to race me.Sometimes I can't resist.
